I just don't get it. They all claim to need to offer slots or other mindless casino games to stay afloat. Yet why don't they move into the 21st Century and offer parimutual horse matchups? The interest and revenue this would create could be far-reaching. Plus--they wouldn't have to kiss some government official's backside to get casin or whatever on a ballot.
The game is horse racing...why not make the MOST of it that you can??

It's a different world today. Everyone want some simple a$$ game, that people have NO CHANCE to win. Yes they'll pull a handle endlessly for hours....it's simply mind-blowing.to me. Where is the fun in it?

Some of them do; I know Emerald Downs does and I believe some Kentucky tracks do so as well. It's only one per race and the lines aren't -110, -115, etc. but rather 1-5, 2-5, 3-5 and so on.

I am not certain this is a good idea at all. Would like to see more opinions.

Pete is right. It is in fact a terrible idea. First off, this was tried on a few Breeders Cups lately and hardly took any action at all.

Now, for why it is a poor idea. A matchup is the perfect type of bet to fix. After all, you need only lose to one horse. It would create the perception of cheating. It's bad enough we have jockeys who often stiff horses, and trainers who drug, now we would have an easy way to cheat.

Well, Excuse me....The fix?????????? I'd rather take a chance on the "fix ..NOT being in"...than bet a fixed game such as a slot machine..........But that's just me folks. The idea is to create more interest in racing. If a trainer or jocj is going to "fix"...ya think they will wait for a match race??
I'd stay away entirely if I thought that. But I only play the major circuits and No Harness in any form.

I agree with Vault there is already a bad perception of racing among the general public. They need to fix all the broken shit in the Pari-Mutual system and the industry before they go offering a completely different market

Who's
Comparing a slot machine to horseracing is pretty darn funny. Slots you have to overcome the hold %. Horseracing you half to overcome the Jockey, trainer, 20% track hold and all the rest of the BS that comes with it. If you think the funny business only happens on the smaller circuits and Harness your pretty wrong

Without slots 80 % of todays horse tracks would be closed. That being said within 15 years I believe we will have regional racing only with just the best of the best surviving! Simulcasting has killed betting in the small markets on the local product ( corrollarily it has also saved it for awhile because of out of market betting on it.) and it is only a matter of time before the small tracks close, unfortunately.:sad3: Little did we know how good racing was back in the days of the wire and $6 combine windows! LOL!

If people have the perception that racing is "fixed" in whatever degree, they think it is fixed; than you are right...ABSOLUTELY NOTHING will change those folks minds. So they won't go....I guess the few times that I've been in Atlantic City Casinos....has prety much turned me off to the people that enjoy slots and most table games.... They are a "breed apart" if you'll excuse the horse pun.

I simply find more mental enjoyment in the horse and sports than spinning a roulette wheel or pulling a slots handle.......

Maybe over-exposure to horse racing has been the problem....but if I thought it was simply a fixed game......I would never go again.
