Former Boston star Cam Neely heads up a list of three named to the Hockey Hall of Fame. Joining the sharp-shooting forward are the late Valeri Kharlamov and Murray Costello, the former president of the Canadian Hockey Association. Neely played ten of his 13 seasons in Boston and scored 50 goals or more goals three different times. Kharlamov was one of the stars of the Russian teams that dominated international competition in the 70's. Sadly he and his wife were killed in an auto accident in 1981.

Also great in Dumb and Dumber.....great hockey player and part of one of the worst hockey deals in history when Vancouver traded Cam Neely and a 1st round pick (Glen Wesley) for Barry Peterson

Yup, always liked Glen Wesley and always thought he was overshadowed playing alongside Bourque.

Cam Neely was awesome and I'm very pysched to see that.

2 questions to anyone out there:

I don't remember but whart was the injury (recurring I believe) that cut his career short?

Also, did anyone ever see the comedy special they aired on Comedy Central for I believe the Cam Neely Foundation? It had Dennis Leary, Jon Stewart, Nick Demario (sp?) and a host of other comedians and was funny as hell.

Cam Neely injuries

A hit taken on his thigh in game six of the 1991 Prince of Wales Conference Championship series in Pittsburgh caused him to develop a condition known as myositis ossificans, where a portion of the muscle in his thigh turned to bone and he missed the first 38 games of the season with that condition. Returned to the lineup January 2 vs. Winnipeg . Then developed a knee problem stemming from the original thigh injury and he underwent surgery on the knee on February 3, missing the remainder of the season and playoffs. Missed the first 60 games of the 92-93 season rehabilitating from last season's knee surgery.

95-96 missed 32 of the last 35 games with a chronic hip injury, including the last 25 regular season and all playoff games…

wil- I was really glad when I heard Cam Neely was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame. I had always hoped he would get in but wasn't quite sure if he had the numbers. I don't really keep up with the Hall of Fame who gets in and who doesn't but this guy was a fabulous hockey player. He was one of my all-time favorite Bruins and was hugely popular in Boston.

That's a nice picture of Cam Neely and Ray Bourque. I love those old Bruin home jerseys. I still can't believe they changed to those hideous home jerseys they wear now. Barry Pederson was also a very good hockey player until an injury cut his career short. I believe he had some sort of wrist or forearm problem.

Congratulations to Cam Neely.

Yep thats some good news Neely used to be my favorite player as a kid and Ulf Samulson is still on the top of my most hated sports people list for the hit on Neely that caused the injury.
