Alex Rodriguez has hit his 400th career homer as the New York Yankees beat the Brewers 12-3 in Milwaukee. He's the 40th (and youngest) player in major league history to reach the plateau. It was the second homer of the night for Rodriguez who also smacked a two-run shot in the first. He is the only player ever to hit 400 dingers before his 30th birthday.

And of course he hits 2 home runs in a blow out. Not a Yankee hater or anything but let's face facts in a tie game in the bottom of the 9th runner on 3rd A-Rod isn't the guy you want up to bat i'd take Jeter in that spot anyday.

Whether you like the guy or not an amazing feat. Doesn't look like he has been on the Juice but does make one wonder.

Well the amazing thing about A-Rod is how healthy he has been able to stay.

Add in the fact he is a Yankee and I happen to think this guy will be the all time leader when it's all said and done.

When my brother visited Mass last month he was at the Cask 'n' Flagon (A famous sportsbar very near Fenway park) about 6 hours before game time and he looked out the window and said Alex was just walking around by himself.

No question about it. Today was vintage ARod, goes yard twice in a 15-4 blowout. He hits more meaningless homers than anyone else in the game. Same guy choked over and over in the series with the RedSox. Bases loaded and a tight game you can't count on squat from this guy, he's the last Yankee I want to see up there.

Pat, I agree. Biggest house hold name brand player who just absolutely sucks in the clutch.

Stud athlete and a nice guy though.

Thing about baseball is that being one of the greats is not centered around clutch moments or championships like basketball or football. Take Derek Jeter for example. Look at everything that guy has done and the titles he has won. What will you say about Derek in 10 years? You will probably say "yeah, he was a pretty good short stop." No one is going to say he is legendary or an all time great.

Jeter is almost a lock for HOF; he's probably the most-loved player by members of the baseball club like Joe Morgan which is what gets you in!

...and as for A-Rod, doubt he'll be in NY much longer. He doesn't like it and made a bad move going there, he'd be much better suited even in a place like Boston but could also see him going back to a mid-market contender and thriving. The guy just doesn't perform well in the high-pressure environment of NY and his performance suffers becaue of it.

I really think A-Rod wanted to be in Boston. You could just hear it in his voice when they asked him about the trade and what went down. I would love to have Alex here. I know a part of his heart is in the bean, and he has some sentiment towards us. But as long as he is a Yankee, I want to seem him screw up as much as possible. That goes for Derek too. I might admire Jeter, but I hope he goes down looking every time.

Currently number 33 all-time at 445 home-runs,

He should be #1 some day IMO.

It really is mind boggling to think A-Rod will have close to 500 homers by the end of next year.

barring a career ending injury Jeter is a lock....one of the true clutch players in baseball history.

Agree, Rob underestimates him. Jeter would have to get busted for roids, gambling, child molestation or something to not make it. You got to like a guy that will dive into the stands for a ball. He might well make it if he were injured permanently today.

7-2-08:

Rodriguez’s hit his 535th homer, moving him past Jimmie Foxx for 14th on the career list and within one of Yankees Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle.
