Well, last night the lines at Olympic were just where I wanted them. Miami and Tennessee were dogs, and I had them big to win. Ole Miss was decent, and that was my big play for Saturday.

I have to get up early this morning and drive the 3 hours to NYC to pick up my daughter for the weekend. I get home early evening, check out the lines at Pinnacle -- and guess what, everything has changed!

Now Miami and Tennessee are both favorites and Ole Miss is ever more of a favorite! What's more, Winky and Box are on the same teams! They've even jumped on the Ole Miss bandwagon, can you believe it, after I won three easy games with them last weekend. This especially shocked me from the Wink, who's spent the last few years putting down the SEC it seems.

Anyway, I had my insightful writeups all planned and ready to go. Now the work has already been done.

So, I am 6-1 in college baseball after last weekend, with my only loss being a +243 play on Maine where they ended up losing by one run with the bases loaded in the ninth. And if I had waited until Pinnacle put up their +4 line, I would have just taken that and would be undefeated in college baseball.

Anyway, 6-1 is as well as anyone else has done, as far as I can tell regarding who has posted here, and now I'm looking at a solid Super Regional showing.

Once again: Tennessee and Miami for Friday.

Ole Miss big on Saturday. Did you know that Ole Miss has 4 of the top 100 guys drafted? Yep, they will defeat Texas and move to the CWS for the first time since 1979, if memory serves me well.

I'll keep you updated -- especially if those other two guys don't keep coming around copying me:biglaugh:

And of course I'm sure they know I am only kidding. Actually, I'm quite happy that we are all on the same teams, but somehow I truly expected them to be on Texas -- the guys who've already been there and done that.

Ole Miss, by damn!

the other day when you said you thought we'd be on Texass - BIG - it took every single ounce of restraint i had to keep from saying otherwise

i stand by my SEC stance - but Texass isn't the Texass we are used to seeing -t hey are living on past reputation and Ole Miss is REALLY good - better than Texass - by a LOT!

i would be more shocked if this series goes 3 games instead of only 2

I just posted this in Winky's thread, and figured I might as well post it in my own thread as well -- a sharing of my perspective of Ole Miss:

Anyway, you know I am also on Ole Miss as my top game, as well as Tennessee and Miami. I have always respected you, but my respect grew when you picked Ole Miss over Texas. It was quite clear to me, knowing Ole Miss like you know Fullerton, that the Rebels were clearly the superior team even though Texas has the name and rep, and I was impressed that this was also obvious to you. I might think a little more of the Texas pitching staff than you do, because it's really been the pitching that has carried them through. Their records and statistics are fairly impressive. Yet the Ole Miss pitchers are at least as good, and the Rebels have an offense that the Longhorns are lacking this year. They have solid hitters throughout their lineup.

Ole Miss swept Arkansas on the road this season.

Ole Miss also won 3 of 4 from Florida this year, although the Gators idiotically continue to be ranked higher.

This is a very talented, highly motivated, and well coached team who are primed to show America how good they really are. I also predict Ole Miss in 2.

Texas pitching:

The Texas pitching staff’s ERA is 2.88 on the season.

Cox is a junior RHP with a 7-2 record, 34 appearances, 15 saves, a 1.69 ERA, and was named National Stopper of the Year this week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association.

Kasparek is a 6-foot-10 (that’s right, 6-10) true freshman RHP with a 7-0 record and a 1.95 ERA. Boone is a sophomore RHP with a 7-4 record and a 3.41 ERA. McCullouch is a sophomore RHP with a 10-4 record and a 3.07 ERA. Alaniz is a redshirt freshman RHP with a 5-3 record and a 2.89 ERA.

Stewart is a senior RHP who has 40 appearances with a 9-0 record, a 3.09 ERA and one save. Cody is a senior LHP with 31 appearances, a 4-1 record, a 3.96 ERA and one save.

Q & A with Texas coach Augie Garrido:

Q: Does your team have an edge since it has “been there” before, namely to Super Regionals and the College World Series? Oklahoma Coach Sunny Golloway feels you do.

Garrido: “We’ll know in hindsight. We’ll know more about that at the end of the deal. That might be Sunny’s perception of us based on the number of times we’ve played each other over the years. (Arkansas) Coach (Dave) Van Horn feels Mississippi is the better team between the two of our teams. He’s seen more of Mississippi, and then he saw us three games here. One of his (Van Horn’s) remarks to the media here was that in his opinion Mississippi is the best team between the two. I respect him as a baseball man. I don’t think he was popping off. I think that’s really his opinion.”

NY Reb at work:

:modemman:

A small band of folks who check my threads know that over the long run, I win more than I miss. I plan to have a profitable college baseball season, short though it might be. I invite you to participate in my thread with any thoughts, comments, or insights.

Funny, the three games that immediately stood out to me are liked by the other two guys here as well. Could be that we're really on to something. The prices aren't so weird this weekend either.

Over my years of posting I have given you my guarantee: I will win more often than not, and when I'm not, I take a little break from posting until the flow is ironed out a bit. This way, no one suffers through a losing streak with me.

Ah, too much dribble. I'm really looking forward to the Super Regionals. I have been an avid fan of college baseball for many years, and it's great that we can now see the SRs on TV as well as the CWS. I'll be enjoying every pitch of every game.

Good luck, Spreadbeater.

1-1 today. Tennessee came through, but Miami couldn't get it done.

Excellent night in MLB. 5-0 tonight and 24-9 last 33.

My play on Ole Miss tomorrow is bigger than either of my plays today. I fully expect the Rebs to win this series 2-0.

Mark Holliman will start tomorrow. Mark's stats have slipped a little this season as a junior, but he has been the 'Friday starter' for Ole Miss since he was a true freshman. In fact, last season the team had the attitude that Friday nights were theirs, as Mark lost very few games. He can be dominant and possesses a full arsenal of pitches. He was drafted in the second round the other day. He is what you call a stud pitcher, with a fastball in the mid 90's. He gives the Rebels an excellent chance to win on Saturday.

The Ole Miss offense has more talent than Texas. RF Brian Pettway led the SEC in batting at .400, has hit 20 HRs, and was drafted in the 3rd round. Team USA member Steven Head has hit 18 HRs, and was drafted in the 2nd round. There are no easy outs in the Ole Miss lineup.

I realize that the Horns have been there and done that, and were in the finals at Omaha just last season, after winning it all the year before, but the Rebels are more than capable of winning this series without too much sweat. Not that it'll be easy, but they are really good and just now peaking.

Ole Miss big tomorrow!

Okay, here's a new play:

Baylor -170

Price is decent for college baseball. Believe the Bears can do it.

Texas Scouting Report

They're Texas and have that belief that they're going to win no matter what. I don’t know what is it or what you can call it. They never panic and obviously get that from Augie (Garrido). Still, you never felt (nervous) against them like you did Nebraska. I didn't feel they had offensive power to kill us. Try to get ahead early, as long as we were up we knew that (J. Brent) Cox would have to stay down in that pen. You know he's lurking down there. If Cox gets in, you better hit the first fastball you see because if not it's going to be all sliders. (Adrian) Alaniz was unbelievable early and his velocity was down in the Big 12 tournament. His fastball is straight. He's going to throw that good breaking ball and we just sat breaking ball and tried to hit it the other way. (Kyle) McCulloch throws fastballs early, then gets the slider going and mixes in a change. He's a competitor, he's aggressive and he'll work backwards. (Buck) Cody has some trouble throwing strikes, he's a guy we had get to from the bullpen. He'll throw a lot of fastballs, especially in tight spots.

Seth Johnson was unbelievable for me this year. Last year he wasn’t anything close to this year; he's just flat better. We tried everything: in, out, soft, up, down, hard. He's more patient now, but still likes that first pitch. You want to be careful with (Drew) Stubbs and (Taylor) Teagarden, but not too careful because you can pitch to them. Stubbs has power to all fields, but he'll chase breaking balls late in counts. Teagarden tries to pull early, and has power that way, but goes oppo late and shoots the gaps. I saw where (Chance) Wheeless hit a home run against Arkansas; he has power in there. I always wondered why he hit four, five hole and that's why. (Nick) Peoples and (Carson) Kainer (have been) playing every day lately and have both been real good.

With Texas it's predictable when they bunt, and they like to put pressure on you. It's similar to most Texas teams. Augie likes to sacrifice on the road, but push and drag at home because of the turf. He won't hit and run at home, he will on road. It gets to you real quick on their surface. Augie's going to see that short fence (at Mississippi) and have a guy like Johnston, who can hit it over it, and still be tempted to bunt because that's what they do. It will be interesting to see if he sticks with what he's done all year or takes a chance to hit it out. He lets them let it fly on the road. I don’t think he'll bunt as much.

Mississippi Scouting Report

It was clearly a different team this year versus least year. The best thing Ole Miss has going for them is they got that late-season stumble out of the way in the middle this year. You could go back four years in a row and they struggled late. Getting that behind them is big. The way they finished this year, you look at (juniors Brian) Pettway and (Stephen) Head and (Mark) Holliman and (senior Barry) Gunther--they are the heart and soul of the team. That experience is very valuable. A lot of times you see a young freshman and sophomore not have enough gas in the tank to play 56 games. As much as you can say it's physical when you wear down, it's also mental and they've overcome that.

The biggest strength is the lineup is very solid top to bottom. They mix good left and right with the hitters, with Head and Pettway being left and right, you're never going to dominate all the middle of the order guys. Pettway lost enough weight that he could play corner outfield, and they didn't have to play him at third (or DH) so they got a good athlete there. I'm sure he had some (offensive) success because of Head, but he didn’t miss pitches when he got them. (Chris) Coughlan really ignites them for me. He really elevated his game over last year. He has better plate coverage and is using the whole field more. You can't get him out (pitching) in and out anymore. The other big improvement was Gunther behind the plate as a field general; his defense really improved. Last year some days he dropped balls or missed things. Now he throws very accurately and he's blocking balls. (Shortstop Zack) Cozart made routine plays and got some big hits down the stretch.

You've got to really be able to change speeds behind in the count, get those hitters to get themselves out by chasing offspeed stuff in fastball counts. That's the success we had in past, getting them to chase in fastball counts. They're more mature and not doing that any more. The way you beat them is get everybody out around (Pettway and Head), and then solo home runs don’t beat you. Head just attacks hitters aggressively (as a closer). He's ruthless. Just pounding. I don’t know how far they go past Head. They have three legit starters, and a legit reliever, but other than that it's week to week. Pettway stepped up in SEC tournament, but the bullpen may be obsolete if the starters are on. I've seen (Mark) Holliman go unbelievable, and I've also seen (Matt) Maloney go unbelievable. If (Eric) Fowler gets his breaking ball going, he's got the best breaking ball we've seen. They're all aces.

Yeah, sometimes Holliman gets excited at the beginning of the game. Hopefully he'll calm down, because he has great stuff when he's under control.

Frustrating game so far.

Double frustrating for me because it's not being shown where I live.

Rain delay. Maybe that will help our cause. Couldn't hurt.

Those who are on this game with me:

Ole Miss is totally capable of pulling this game out. They can score runs and have a deep pitching staff. Don't get down because we're behind by 2 after 3, at the break. Anything can still happen, with 6 innings to go.

Of course, all of that is totally obvious to anyone, so I guess I'm just expressing it for the group.

I'll be here throughout the game, whenever it is continued, if anyone wants to join in an in-game.
