So many people are blown away at the scale of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) now underway at the Rio in Las Vegas. I keep hearing, that it doesn’t have the same feel as it used to, as if it was a compliment. I don't particularly care for the change.

Good op-ed piece Bill. I happen to agree with you.
I kinda hope the pros take charge this year and at least a big "name" wins the big one, instead of another "one-year wonder".
Also, the greed is outrageous, and a serious format change needs to be considered. At least 5000 of the estimated 6600 main event entries will be there via internet satellite. Something is wrong with that picture. I consider the 25k WPT Championships the "true" championship of poker, due to the buy-in as well as the blind structure.

WildBill:

Nicely written and couldn't agree with you more. I find myself watching the Poker Challenge Elimination matches on FSN Sunday evenings just to enjoy watching many of the games best go head to head even though for a much smaller sum. Appreciate watching the skill some of these masters possess. But all things in life constantly change and with it some of the tradition is lost. If we could only slow things down once in awhile to take a second look before their gone. Unfortunately time waits for no one. We are left to adapt.
