Which airline are you flying and how much for the roundtrip? I am now starting to look to book my flight, just wanted some advice as to how much is a good price. I'll be leaving from either Fort Lauderdale or Miami. Thanks fellas.

Spread,

If the bash you are referring to is in Vegas....you can't beat Southwest for best fares. I live in South Florida also (Hollywood) and always find SW to be the cheapest. Go to IFlyswa.com. Very user-friendly software when booking flights.

Southwest is best because you can buy your ticket now and then if the fare goes down, you can easily change it and get extra credit to use for a year. If you need to change your fare its far cheaper doing that as well.

Southwest is so cheap, I can't believe that they can do this long term--then again, they won't use Denver because the "docking fees"(not the right term) are too high. I think that they even forced Frontier out of a couple markets because they would undercut whatever they put up for a fare.

They have been doing it for two decades now. The key is they fill those planes up all the time. Can't blame them for not flying to Denver, they charge $39 I believe per passenger to use a gate there, the legacy of a $3 billion airport.

Wow...$39 a head???

I'll never bother trying to fully comprehend the airline industry. Best I can tell, the model is to pay yourselves a ton, go belly up after a few years, start over with a "clean slate" and do it all over again.

I know some people who are retired from UAL who will rant until they are blue in the face. To top it off, someone is now looking to buy them now that they are coming out of bankruptcy with the "clean slate".

Only fools buy and hold airline stocks. They get good runs because when things are good, they are REALLY good. I wouldn't be surprised if in 18 to 24 months all airline stocks are profitable again with the lower cost structures they have. They will hum along for 2 to 4 years and then hit some rough patch and get screwed because all along they agree to pay too much for planes and staff. Only way out is to get a court to order the pay levels down. Never ending cycle. DIA got into the same mess building a massive boondoggle in a time and age where price was no object.
