It is EXTREMELY important that one reads each SPORTSBOOKS INDIVIDUAL RULES on how they handle tennis match-ups.

For example, here is a sample of the TENNIS RULES from PINNACLE..........

Retirement or Disqualification:

  1. Head to Head Matchups:

Two full sets must be completed for wagers to stand. Less than 2 sets completed - all wagers will be considered void.

Example: Federer 6-3, 4-6, 2-0 (Roddick retired due to injury). All wagers stand. Federer declared the winner while Roddick is deemed the loser. Example: Federer 6-3, 2-0 (Roddick retired due to injury). All wagers considered void.
  2. Sets Betting:

If a tennis match is not completed because of a player retirement or disqualification, all Match and Set wagers will be considered void. Such wagers will be canceled and the monies refunded.
Please note, not only tennis, but one should understand the sportsbook rules at all their participating books in all sports they wager on.

great post Fishhead:103631605

I learned the hard way by not reading my bet when I placed it.

Also if you call in your wager be sure they read the whole wager back to you...real easy to get tricked by their accents (books rep)

Hopefully you didn't get burned on a tennis scalp Fish.

No........not yet anyways.

You bring up a GREAT point though...........if one is scalping ANY sport, it is #1 priorty that they understand the rules of that particular sport involved, or they could be in for a rude awakening later on down the road.

Congrats man. I was on the other side and thought i'd have no action. Only to find out it was counted as a loss.

Lucky, at most places it's a push.

Unfortunately it became necessary for books to change their rules because of the rampant in-match retirement match situation a few years ago. They got burned too often and needed to make some changes.

If you are betting tennis, it is IMPERATIVE that you are familiar with the different rules at different books. You can use this to your advantage when you have the proper info.
Today's Kiefer-Berdych match is a perfect example. Kiefer had an iffy ankle and the chances of him retiring were pretty good. If you were betting Berdych you would want to place your bet at a book with a one-set rule or the least amount of action. If you figured Kiefer was the play, you would want the most action possible, e.g. Pinny's two-set rule.

I remember two years ago I had 5 underdogs in a minor tournament the lowest odds being +700. Four of the favorites retired within the first 6 games of the match and I cashed a nice bonus. Those salad days are over.:103631605
