I guarantee I will never see this again. I was watching Hollywood Park and they are running the race and an earthquake happens. It was hysterical, the race caller is joking about it being his last call when they were running, and then when its a photo finish, he says he doesn't care who wins. Awesome. My horse lost of course but what an excuse.

Earthquake Rocks Southland

<LI>Preliminary Magnitude Of 5.3

Jun 16, 2005 2:01 pm US/Pacific
(AP)
An earthquake shook a wide area of Southern California Thursday but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

It was the third significant quake to affect California since Sunday when a magnitude-5.2 quake shook the Anza area of Riverside County. A 7.0 quake struck Tuesday night 90 miles off Northern California.

The latest quake was felt from Los Angeles to San Diego and in counties to the east.

The 1:53 p.m. quake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 and was centered near Yucaipa in San Bernardino County east of Los Angeles, according to the automated seismic network operated by the U.S. Geological Survey, California Institute of Technology and other institutions.

It happened about 30 minutes ago...I am sitting in an office about 3 miles from Hollywood Park and I definitely felt it. It was a pretty minor earthquake, but enough that the race announcer's booth would have been swaying a little.

CA will end up falling into the ocean in our lifetime...why people want to live there with quakes, fires, smog etc is beyond me. I lived there during the Northridge earthquake and could not wait to get the fuck out of that place

30 years living in L.A. was enough for me. No place to raise kids.

You're right there, I wouldn't want to raise kids here either. Washington seems like an excellent place for that.

as my CA "brothers" all chimed in - CA is the GREATEST state to live in. we have the beaches, mountains and everything else anyone could ask for.

as for earthquakes - like most - i am used to it - and a 5-something quake isn't even going to make me sweat and affect me at all. when there is a quake during normal sleeping hours, most of us get woken up, watch/listen to the shaking and 5 minutes after it is over we are back asleep

for those who badmouth CA - KEEP ON DOING IT! we have WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too many people here as is - and if you don't want to be here - we don't want you here, either. there is enough traffic as is - one less car will only make it better

and for those who don't like CA - come New Year's Day - when you are trapped inside because the temp is in negative numbers and/or there is snow up to your ass outside - watch the Rose Parade/Bowl game and see what the sun ACTUALLY looks like - for odds are it will be 70 and sunny here

you don't want that? good - stay where you are and think how bad it is out here in CA - for those of us who live here wouldn't live anywhere else!

On top of everything else, L.A./SoCal is one of the few places where you can walk into a bar and the women actually outnumber the dudes. I used to go to bars in Chicago and it would be nothing but a massive swordfight.

Local news in Phoenix showed the whole race during their newscast.

First time I paid attention to the local news in a long time. Great call.
