With Alex Smith it will be tough to do well but they have an okay shot at 6-7 wins. Last season they had numerous injuries to their defense and that is what cost them more than anything. Sure, the offense stunk, but the best defensive players were down.

The 49ers have shown how hard it is to build from the draft nowadays. In recent years they had the Offense and built a young Defense through the Draft, however, with the learning curve, and as jakethompson pointed out injuries, by the time the Defense was set, the Offense has gone. They will struggle this Year but barring injuries, The Defense will make them no push-overs, especially with Nolan in place of the dinosaur Erickson and given the fragility of their Division rivals, will possibly surprise some people.
With the Cardinals "appearing" to be on the right track they very well could be a 1 or 2 win team. Heaven forbid a few injuries and you could be looking at the outside possibility of an o-fer. I don't see how you could see much upside, they were so badly overmatched last year and only got 2 OT wins against a lousy team.
Exactly my point. If the Cards get it going the two wins the Niners got will be tougher to come by. Of course the Cards have had false starts time and again so I am not getting too ahead of myself, but I heard 3 wins was the number some linemakers were thinking of putting up on the Niners and I would say that is a good spot to start.
