Baylor Bears vs. Tulane Green Wave
Soph. LHP Cory VanAllen vs. Jr. LHP J.R. Crowell

General Impression
Once again, the bigger conference (Texas/Big12) disposes pretty easily of Conference USA's powerhouse Tulane. Tulane has managed 3 runs in this tournament, despite their stellar hitting stats. They'll have another tough assignment today as they face Team USA Invitee and next year's Baylor ace Cory VanAllen. Van Allen will need to keep Tulane in check, because Baylor has been struggling to hit the ball themselves.

Baylor's Starting Pitcher
Soph. LHP Cory Van Allen has had a solid year with a 2 bad starts that have been stat-wreckers for him. He has been steady for the most part and consistent and has shown flashes of dominance. He will be Baylor's ace next year, and he's one of the most talented left handers in the country. While there was some question as to who is the #3 starter on Tulane, there is no doubt that Van Allen gets the ball in this game. He's been there #3 all year and he could be the #2 and even ace on most teams in the country. 8-4, 3.86 ERA, opponents bat .286 against him and he's given up 11 gopher balls. My guess is he gives up 3-4 runs in his outing.

Tulane's Starting Pitcher
Tulane starts junior LH J.R.Crowell. In a pitching staff that consists of Micah Owings and Brian Bogusevic, there is a good dropoff with Crowell. Crowell's record is deceiving and he is very hittable. He's 10-1 on the year because he gets good run support, but opponents are batting .265 off of him, and he posts an ERA of 5.00 on the year. He's 2-1 with a 7.63 ERA in Conference USA play, in which he only threw 16 IP. He didnt get the call to start in regionals because of inconsistency in Conf USA tournament, he got smacked around for 6 ER and 7 hits in 4 IP by UAB. He didnt pitch in regionals because of it, and his last start was the deciding game 3 in supers against Rice in which he gave up 6 hits and 3 runs in 6 IP.

Baylor's Advantage
Baylor has a solid guy on the mound with huge upside. 3rd rounder out of high school. This guy has the potential to shut down Tulane's lineup. Will he is another question. If he struggles Baylor has the bullpen advantage. They have 3 guys they can run out there, while Tulane really has 1, maybe 2. Baylor has the momentum advantage, beating Oregon State in extras, and looking forward to today's game against Tulane. Word from the CWS is a few of Tulanes players were so disappointed by losing to Texas, they were crying after the game - others are very disappointed. Not the confidence you want in a team that is going against Big12 runner up Baylor.

Tulane's Advantage
Hitting. Hitting. Hitting. Tulane has been shut down, scoring 0 runs against Texas and 3 late runs against Oregon State. Their bats have gone cold, and they face a tough lefty today. But Baylor is terrible at the plate, and they struggle to put up runs.

Bottom Line
Another game where the odds may dictate the play. I don't have that much of a problem going with 2 huge underdogs and getting the split on a day I feel the dogs will go 1-1. Tulane is overvalued on the line. Baylor has the better pitcher on the mound, but Tulane has the better offense. Baylor has the momentum edge, but they are lucky to be here right now and they were outplayed by a poor Oregon State team. Tulane is disappointed to be in the loser's bracket. Baylor has the bullpen edge which is huge in the loser's bracket. But even after all of that is said, these loser's bracket games can be slugfests, and I think you're about to see plenty of runs scored in this one. This game comes down to the Baylor bats, and I think they find some ways to jump out ahead of Tulane on their inconsistent 3rd starter.

My Line

Tulane -140

Current Line

Tulane -176

My Play

NO PLAY

Action Junkies Play

(1.5 units) Baylor +161

I AM NOT PLAYING THIS GAME. Too tough to call. If you must have action, and you played the day game underdog, play Baylor and get the split. You obviously have to keep the units the same exact units as the Arizona State play, if you trailed on that one, or you defeat the purpose of the play. If you go 1-1, you have a profit. 2-0 is a bonus. You also may want to wait on the results of this ASU game. If ASU wins, just call it a day. If they lose, maybe you can try to get the split if you want action.

Best of luck.

Another solid writeup.

sounds like Baylor has a decent shot here.

What about the total of 9? Seems over maybe a play.

Can't really peg this game. You have an offense in Tulane clearly better than Baylor, IF THEY ARE ON. And a pitcher for Baylor and bullpen, clearly better than Tulane's, IF THEY ARE ON. The line is pretty decent here. Baylor has a definite chance with their pitcher. Not really sure how he'll throw today. He has the potential to shut them down, but will he? Baylor has the potential to put up runs against good opponents, but they havnt even come close yet in the CWS. I'm not a fortune teller, and in a game thats too close to call, I'll take the underdog or no one. :103631605
Not really sure about the total as it falls under the same category. I don't know how the game will play out, I really dont have an opinion on it.
I can see Baylor's pitcher continue to shut down Tulanes bats, or I can see Tulane just explode offensively.

The price doesn't look too good, but while watching Baylor yesterday I was licking my chops for the next time the played. This coach has no confidence in his teams ability to hit. I was on Baylor small, and Oregon st. could have won that game 9-4 Very easily IMO. Tulane was nervous the first two and still won one of em. Baylor wanted to go home last week, it almost looked like that southpark episode where everyone on the teams is trying to lose but they cant'.lol anyways Tulane doesn Baylor a favor and sends em home were they want to go.:digit:

agree once again on just about everything

tulane is better and could/would/should win - but at this price - the 2 teams aren't that far apart and IF you play the game - gotta be baylor - but like you - pass for me here

Fair enough. I like your assesment too. They got outplayed yesterday and should have lost 9-4. They were lucky to be in the game against Oregon State.

If you see something that I dont, by all means go for it.

You may be right in your assumption.

I'm just not comfortable laying that juice against VanAllen. He'll be on Team USA, and it takes elite players to get on that team.

In addition, I dont like laying juice on a team that is disappointed and crying. Hows their motivation for this next game? Do they come out flat, still looking back on last game, disappointed to be in the losers bracket? While Baylor comes in pumped up, played a tough Big12 schedule, has defeated Texas 4 games to 1 this year, the same Texas team that waxed Tulane last night. Tulane plays that conference USA schedule and they are with the big boys now.

Those are my reason for not taking tulane. I also have my reasons for not taking Baylor.

thks for input, will just ride Baylor to the bank then.

I don't recommend a play. I think you should pass. But if I HAD to choose, I choose Baylor because of price and reasons listed. :103631605

Do whatever you wish but in my humble but accurate opinion Cory Van Allen will pitch lights out tonight. Have watched him for two years and have never seen him in awe of anyone.

Someone said something negative about Coach Smith. Well two years ago he was voted in top ten baseball people in all of baseball. He suits us just fine.

By the way in case you cant tell for sure I am lifetime Baylor Fan.

as stated in my thread earlier about the home teams, i have been playing all the dogs in the cws..

currently they are: 7-3 (+8.49 units), and i can honestly say that today's 2 wins were two of the most exciting wins and games that i can remember...

Great analysis again Box. Thanks for the plays. I put a small amount on Baylor when I noticed Pinnacle jacked it to + 181 just before the start of the game. Damn, that's 6 doggies in a row. The one thing about the dogs is they haven't had a disadvantage like they will tomorrow. Please tell me to play both Favs tomorrow, I got to do it.

Let me be a word of caution...If you think for one minuet that Baylor does not want in the ring again with Texas y ou wrong wrong wrong...They did not accidentaly beat Texas 4 times....Just be a little cautious

Yo Sal!

I appreciate the offer, but I really only bet the major sports. I like to stick to NBA, NFL, MLB, college and maybe some NHL.

I don't usually like to follow blindly, and I like to agree with picks that are posted by respected cappers like yourself. I'll play it by ear, but as of right now I'm sticking to baseball, and I'll be looking forward to some of your NFL picks next year after cashing that Pats Superbowl Moneyline for me.

Good luck buddy.
