His low 90mph resembles a softball coming in. I am not sure he can reach 99 any longer. Tonight, one of the stiffest performances I have ever seen from him. Gives up the long ball easily now. He is tracking for career highs on earned runs, home runs and hits. It used to be hard to make contact against him, now mediocre batters slap him around. 15 mil per for this? George bit the big one here. But tonight was just the worst. He looked like he was tossing bp, against the DRays? Their entire roster might get 15 mil. Not really, but still, he was showing signs of dead arm back in 03, for all to see. He was slowing a little more last year. I always thought he needed an out pitch besides heat. Now no heat, no out pitch. Am I reading him wrong, or is his arm about to fall off from all of these years of heavy innings of heat?

Best Wishes...OF:howdy:

He hasn't strung together a couple stellar outings yet...He looked dominant last game and tonight gets lit up....showing no signs of his old self.

Yankees haven't been signing many pitchers who are living up, thats for sure.

Kind of hard to make that argument last year. Pitching for one of the worst teams in the league he went 16-14. Lots of tough losses in that too, how many times did he get 0-2 runs of support last year? If showing signs of fading is getting 290k's and giving up a .197 batting average, wouldn't we all be blessed?

Maybe he is getting washed up a bit, but still hard to argue he isn't effective. Its just how many pitchers over 35 can you have and expect to make it through a season? Even Rivera is almost there. I was thinking this year would be the first of a string of years the Yanks would struggle mightily due to age, I think you haven't seen anything yet. You can only piece together so many players from elsewhere without your own core.

That was last year. He'll be 42 in Sept. He really could be losing it this quick. He's in terrority that only few have gone. Ryan and Clemens (Satchel Paige too I guess but that was a different time) And the reality is Ryan was not asked to be a dominate ace at that advanced age.

Johnsons fastball is not in the 97 range so far this year, it's about 92-93. He doesn't suck as bad as he did Tonight, but the Yanks signing him to an extension at his age may turn out to be as bad as the Giambi signing.

He's had an "out" pitch for years...his slider, not his heater. His lack of bite and break on his slider has much more to do with his poor performance this season.

But his fastball at 97 set up the nasty slider at 90-91. Throwing his fastball in the low 90's, makes the slider a lot less nasty.

Don't know if Randy has lost it but anyone who took him and that ridiculous line tonight should not be allowed to post on rx anymore!

Was'nt the sharpest of plays, but 8 runs and counting in the bottom of the 8th have put the bombers up 15-11

The three innings was Johnson's shortest outing since Aug. 25, 2000, against the Mets for Arizona. He had not gone less than six innings in 14 starts for the Yankees.

Johnson is losing it fast. Tonight he had nothing. He will have a great outing once in awhile, but he can no longer be counted on as a stopper.
