LOL......I have some very valuable cards J , as well as plentiful.....

I pick a lot of these up in different ways. It helps me get rid of SO MANY of the older cards I have also.........(meaning I get rid of a lot of older cards for newer, better ones)

Did you start collecting buying packs or just collecting whole sets...you seem like a modern day collecter....the type that buys by the set, and more for the money?

How far do you go back? At one time I had the 1970 set mint condition....those early 70's cards were very special to me...you familiar with them?

To be honest J , I have Never been a big fan of sets. Back in 1984, I did buy box after box of topps and put sets together. Coincidentally, that set included rookies such as Dan Marino and John Elway, which I had several of at the time. I stopped collecting again for a while, and then started back again in 1989, when Pro Set put out a very attractive card. Unfortunately, they were WAY overproduced. However, Score also put out sets which became more valuable and included Barry Sanders' rookie.

In my opinion today's collecting is much better as a whole. Autographs right out of packs, memorabilia cards such as game worn jerseys & patches and very limited rookies make it much more worthwhile.....

Yes, I did play baseball in high school, and was a standout to be honest with you. Played against Tom Gordon. My best friend, Gary Painter, was Tom Gordon's rival in Central Florida. He pitched for Florida State and then went on to Winter Haven (Red Sox Right?) and Twins organization, before his rotator cuff finally gave out. It's amazing though, because it does not bother him a bit. He is a Christian now and committed to it, and "what could of been" does not even concern him. He now lives in Sebring, Florida. JMan, ever been catching for someone who throws in the 90's without protection, and have one take a short bounce and off of your knee cap?!? :lolBIG:

No, didn't catch, played left field and 3rd base. I was talking about just messing around at his house, etc. Never had the guts to attempt catching. We were at his house one time and I was bent down catching some for him, and one took a short hop and caught my knee. I rolled around for 10 minutes I bet ya! lol

Tom Gordon pitched for Avon Park. We played at Hardee High School (Wauchula) about 15 miles away. Always a big rivalry. We also (Hardee) have one of the winningest football teams in the state over the decades. Anyhow, Gordon and my friend, Painter, were the top prospects around. Avon Park went to state playoffs in Lake Wales one year, and they were short a player, or players. Some rule back then allowed that team representing it's district to pick up any player inside the district, so they picked up Gary. We rode back and forth with Gordon each game. I have competed against some of Tom's (Gordon) flag football teams he sponsored in city league as well.....
