I have been burnt a few times to say the least. When you lend it, do you consider it money lost?

BB I would not lend Money to anyone UNLESS you trust them 100% and even then you might as well count it as lost...by the way can I borrow fifty? thanks:smoker2:

I would not lend anything less than 100 dollars to someone I don't care who it is. Money and friends just don't mix. Aside from some girl, money is the next biggest reasons why friends just aren't friends anymore

It's funny. Gamblers could lend someone 100$ bucks and not get paid back and they will laugh it off.

But if a gambler gets stiffed 100$ on a bet they will raise hell

You just have to be careful who you lend to. Make sure you lend your money to someone trustworthy like Alan Palmer and you should be ok. :lolBIG:

Oh yeah never place bets with friends, one of you is bound to get bitter when his/her side of the bet loses. Mind you I still have bets with friends but never for money.

lending money is like gambling it....

never loan more than you can afford to lose.

Not too long ago I had a good friend turn to crack. Perfect kid to hang out with, always brought over beer and food and didnt care if I played around on the internet while he was over.

He turned to crack and hit crappy financial status and one day starting hammering at the door at 6 in the morning, looking for 40 bucks. I know exactly what he wants the 40 bucks for. His eyes looked wired as hell, and it's only 6 in the morning. I am hung over, and I feel like I have small peebles in my eyes.

I let him in for a sec to sit down, and so do I. I'm so damn tired. I have like 60 something bucks and some change on my table near by from the night before emptying my pockets, it's in plain view. He keeps telling me how he really needs it, and I'm like I don't have that kind of money on me at the moment and I glance at the money on the table and I glance at him and we can both see it. And we argue back and forth until he finnaly leaves.

He was so wired on crack he either never noticed the bills on the table or he was just too messed up to make the connection of it all. I was so pissed at the time for waking me up, but it was hysterical to me after I caught up on sleep.

That would have been a bad loan. Don't ever loan money for drugs, at least get a good story out of the guy.

:lolBIG: . . No, I said he used to bring over beer and food. Do you picture JJ doing something nice and polite like that?!

But that is good practice, if you plan on randomly hanging out at someones place for 4 hours you should bring something over.

There are a lot of people that I'd never hesitate to lend money to. I trust them all and consider them very good friends, and they've never burnt me. I must be the only loanshark charging 0%, but these are good people who I've known a long time.

I'm probably the lucky one. In general, it's probably just asking for trouble, especially with people that you "kinda sorta" know and trust.

I got burned once by a good friend from high school and I've been extra careful ever since. There's no better way to test someones character IMO than to lend them money and see how fast they pay it back. I do my best to say good things about trustworthy people and make the slowpayers-nopayers feel like the lowlifes they are, even when my own money is not involved.

Loaning money is about as bad a proposition as there is. If you're lucky and the guy pays you back you break even, otherwise you lose. If you want to help a guy out just give him some $$$ and tell him to keep it. If their conscience tells them to pay you back then treat it as a pleasant surprise at that time. No point keeping little files in your head about who owes you what especially when most of the time it makes no difference.
