I think minimal. 20%? Now they may bet horses even other Sports, but I'd say they do NOT bet their own sport.

Half 0r 45-50% as Yogi Berra might have said it...seriously though, probably half if you factor in small pools and things of that nature... mainly on other sports though.

Dante,

What an EXCELLENT question!!!

However, I do KNOW of several who have accounts at some of the sports books we all know, but upper management does everything to protect this information from leaking out...

I don't think it is possible to get a precise percentage of athletes who gamble since getting this information rates up there with obtaining the REAL names of many owners...

I think it would have to be a very low percentage players betting games.I mean think about it wheres the integrity of the game, the whole thing would be a mess .Do I really think players are betting the games they play no low% to none and if they are the games are fixed or could be influenced negitivly, hopefully there betting other sports and even thats not good .

athletes that bet brings to mind pete rose sitting in the foxwoods sportbook daily. I saw him there when I'd go during the mid 90's alot, they even had his own beting window for him .When you see that you know the espn movie was true, the guy was a true degenerate and didn't care who he was around .

Yo Dante ...

I'd say about a 1/3.

What I'm curious to know is ...

The amount of athletes that have action on their own

games!??? :nono5:

... now there's somethin' to ponder.

Since professional athletes are more competitive than most and certainly have extra loot to play, I would say 75% would be accurate if the question includes any/all types of sports wagering.

As for coaches, Pete Carroll definitely has action on USC games. I never saw a coach get so excited scoring a touchdown after having a 20+ pt lead prior to that score and that td put them over the point spread. That was the BYU game last season.

Spot on, people forget that they are the same regardless of income. From my own experience, I would say its more a boredom thing than anything else. One of my shops used to be across from a Premiership (then Div 1) Teams training ground and while the coaches were working out tactics etc, they would all be in betting horses, £2 stakes up to £500 for some. Although Saturday was the busiest day, wednesday training day often decided the profit or loss on the week, the goalkeeper actually had a £5 bet on the opposing Team every Week for some reason. Its all part of living the percieved high life.

I have stories of Jason Williams before he shot the limo driver. He used the same NY office as me.

Human nature, nobody with money stiffed me, wild horses wouldnt stop me getting it back, as for the ones who didnt have the money, I blamed myself for giving them too much rope and rarely chased them.
