Both of those mentioned trades look bad to this Phils fan, Pat The Bat seems to be coming of MLB age with his reworked swing, and Rollins is a pound-for-pound star, and a lineup catalyst with nice pop for a guy of his position, however do agree that Padilla is a very mediocre pitcher that arm troubles have caught up with.
Only the incompetence of Ed Wade and the Giles family could go for these possible bad swaps(see recent trades that sent the Cards an All-Star 3rd Basemen and Braves the game's most underrated gamecalling Catcher for mere junk parts), as stealing Abreu from the Astros via discard is one of the only great front office moves of the last two decades.
Zito is a west coaster and will fly the coup as soon as a door is open contractually, just can't see him happy outside of Cali.
I would like to see the Phils build around Abreu, Burrell, Utley, Michaels, Thome(can't be moved with health and salary), Myers, and Tejeda, as the rest are a mixed bag of average, health issues, and mostly limited shelf-lives.
P.S. Beantown has been chopping wood to the tune of 6+RPG 13 of their last 15..I have been on them for the last 7 straight games..best bunch of pro hitters in baseball..one of the few teams that hit aces as equally well as do when facing 3rd to 5th starters..they have swagger at the plate of late!
