Add Tony Fernandez

They might have all been batting in the 300's

If Mitch Williams would've done his job, instead of putting all his energy and english into falling off the mound after every pitch's release, the Phils would've had an absolute smoking big-gamer in Danny Jackson going in Gm7, whom was in NASTY form!

What a shame the world got a 4-2 Jays back-to-back champ via a softball series of scores, instead of the possible Gm-7 intrigue involving a playoff clutch performer.

Everyone of Slim's customers knew what was coming when Williams came in..Fregosi should've went to I forget his name, but the ex-Pirate setup man that was in pretty good form..

As good as that '93 Jays All-Star team was, they really could've lost that Series 4-2 as easily as winning it, with a capable Phillies closer.

Winfield and Gruber only played on the 92 team while Henderson and Molitor only played on the 93 team. The offense was the best of its time but it wasn't anything like the Yankees murder's row or even the red sox's lineup last year. A better arguement would be to look at the Jays pitching staff from 1992

Jack Morris
Jimmy Key
David Cone
David Wells
Al Lieter
Juan Guzman
Todd Stottlemyre
Dave Stieb
Pat Hentgen
Mike Timlin
Duane Ward
Tome Henke

To this date I have a hard time finding a better pitching staff in the last 20 years.

Henderson and Winfield were not there at the same time....still a very fine lineup no doubt...I think 1995 Cleveland was equal or better

When the A's had the Bash Bros (Canseco and McGwire) with Rickey Henderson leading off, that lineup was pretty stacked. I think they had Carney Lansford at 3rd and a couple other solid offensive players. Walt Weiss was the only weak offensive player and he was a solid defensive SS.

That pitching roster is just sick!

dmmd, I agree whom was better, not sure if it was Cox(I think not?), but minus the Mitch Williams meltdowns, that batch of Phillie upstarts were game for the shocker.

Well if the guy you are talking about came from Pittsburgh its Danny Cox since I know for a fact he came via a mid season deal from Pittsburgh

That is him, I do remember he was picked up midway, and mostly see him in a white Cards jersey in my mind's eye.

Other minor notes Tony Fernadez didn't play on the 92 team but was on the 1993 team.

It was awesome watching the Jays play those years. Every game was just about the same. Starting pitcher goes 6 innings Timlin comes in the 7th, Ward, 8th and Henke closed it off in the 9th. Unless Timlim messed it up, the game was over.

My comment about Oakland's lineup being better was based purely on offense. I thought that is what the comparison was. Here is Toronto's starters during the 2 seasons from a position player standpoint:

1992
C- Borders
1B- Olerud
2B- Alomar
3B- Gruber
SS- Lee
LF- Maldonado
CF- White
RF- Carter
DH- Winfield

1993
C- Borders
1B- Olerud
2B- Alomar
3B- Sprague
SS- Fernandez
LF- Henderson
CF- White
RF- Carter
DH- Molitor

the 1999 Cleveland Indians.. .1,009 runs scored, the only top 20 team not from 1950 or earlier. The 1,009 mark ranks 13th all time

Oakland's lineup was more deadly. The Jays back then had an offense much like the White Sox's do today where if there are runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. For sure 1 run will score and more than likely both will since they had guys who can hit and run as well as someone like Joe Carter who can knock it out of the park. Speaking of Joe Carter had there been a worse baseball color man than Carter? He was the Eric Dickerson of color man when he was at WGN

CF- Henderson
RF- Canseco
DH- Baylor

1990 (104-58)
C- Steinbach
1B- McGwire
2B- Randolph
3B- Lansford
SS- Weiss
LF- Henderson
CF- Henderson
RF- Canseco
DH- Baines

The A's are remembered for that offensive lineup...but it is one of the best pitching staff's in a LONG time in the American League:
1990 A's ERA 3.52
1988 A's ERA 3.83

1992 Tor ERA 4.21
1993 Tor ERA 4.58
