I just bought a Pioneer Elite 50' plasma TV Saturday.

After having it delivered and hooked up what do I find once we turn the TV on????........THE PICTURE SUCKS!!!!!!

What the install guy tells me is, "You need to upgrade your Satellite reciever to an HD compatable reciever as well as upgrading your cables to higher quality cables." On top of that, my DVD player since it's only 4 years old.....needs to be upgraded too!!!!! I need to upgrade to an HDMI grade DVD player to get the clear crisp quality the TV had in the showroom.

Man......what a bunch of crap after spending over 5k on a television:headbeat:

That suxx :sad3:

Moral of the story -- keep old TVs and old technology until they completely poop out. Plenty of excitement and titillation available from 1990's technology (even 80's IMO if the stuff is in good condition).

the native resolution on plasma's is brutal anyways. they look fine on dvd's which are closer to the max res they can display, but quality really lacks on hdtv broadcasts. each type of tv has it's advantages and disadvantages (plasma has bad resolution but great brightness, lcd has great resolution, not as bright and black level issues).

that being said, i have 3 hdtvs, one crt and 2 lcd panels and i couldn't be happier. the recievers are a must for hdtv (sports in hdtv is awesome) but as for the cables, go to ebay..

Something else they did not tell you at the store. Plasma wears out after about 3.5 years and your picture will get worse and worse as time goes on starting at the 3 year mark.

Its a shame to pay 6 grand for a TV that is only designed to last 4 years.

yeah im going to buy a plasma when the come down in price , WAY down

I remember when Camcorders where 4000$ for ones that where the size of movie camera's Now you can get one practically in a gumball machine for almost nothing

Plasma prices will drop ...might take time but they will be cheap

My television is over 15 yo and I dont own a dvd player. I am far too cheap to ever spend 5k on a television and I am satisfied with what I have.

However, that sucks you spent 5k on a tv and you are not getting the quality you thought you purchased.

i agree with the other posters, you should return it..

btw. the cable upsell is common, the margin on them is huge which means bigger commissions for the salesman. as long as your dvd player is progressive scan and hooked up by at least component cables, it should look pretty good regardless.

I just bought an epson projector for $600.

I get a 100 + inch screen and it is pretty clear.

Great for movies, sports and especially video games.

I will never buy another tv again. Projector all the way.

Hopefully, you can work this out. Good luck.

Went over to a friend of my uncle's last year during the AFC and NFC championships and this guy had a projector with the screen and all about 96 inches. It was a site to see! The only thing is the room has to stay completely dark for the best picture. Best game watching I ever saw.

return the plasma and get a combo LCD/projection 50 incher for about 3500 and you will be much happier...HD is awesome for sports and you should definitely upgrade to it.

It is a well known fact in the post production side of the entertainment industry that the plasma screens burn out after an average of five years. they are an option only people who wip their ass with $100 bills.

Get the "DLP" HD. I've had my 51" Samsung since last August. We looked at a ton of different brands and models and the DLP (stands for Digital Light Processing) was the best in my opinion. Fortunately, I already knew about the Plasma's short life span, so didn't even consider one.

R.C. Wileys who are a large chain store no longer sells plasma TV's. The salesman told me they blow up after a year. The DLP's are nice. I have not bought one yet. Sam's Club has the best price by far if anyone is interested.

finally some one with a brain speaks out!!!!!!

People i am telling you, projector is the way to go. Ok fine it can be a bitch to setup but once you have that screen hanging in your living room and you can actually watch movies at 120 inches (i never get tired of watching THe Matrix like this and if i decrease the size of the picture down to about 50 inches and play a movie like House of flying daggers, your eyes will actually hurt from the color alone!!!!!)

But be warned folks, projectors have their pros and cons. The high end models coming out nowadays dont require that you are able to control the light in your living room. Mine is not that new and i cant open the blinds on one particular window close to it or else you cant see anything. (But trust me folks, the picture you get can be so intense it will hurt your head if you dont turn on some lights to balance it out. I dont have this problem but one of my friends does and there is a technical issue tied to this that you have to look into before you buy your projector.
Also you have to clean it every 2 or 3 months, (no big deal its very easy to clean). Then the light bulb will cost you quite a bit depending on the model you get. I just replaced my first bulb after owning my projector for about a year and a half. But i watch more tv than the average person. THE BULB COST ME $750.00!!!!!! But its worth it! I am never buying another large screen tv for the rest of my life. These things if, treated right can have a very long shelf life.

The screen you use to watch your movies or tv is also a consideration you may have. I have a manual pull down screen that cost me 250.00 (Some idiot installer once tried to convince me to buy an electric one for i think about 2k which i think is the most stupid thing i ever heard!!!)

If you want some pics of my set up then email me.

here is a website you can use to learn more about them.

I highly recommend them if you are a movie buff (which i am ) and you are ready to commit to one. This is not something you simply wanna go and acquire as an impulse buy. and also, when it comes to HDTV, they can beat out a large number of the more current LCD screens (i am specifically referring to DLP projectors which mine is)

BTW i am not a projector sales man...Just a movie buff who is in love with his projector!

The new projectors that are coming out of late dont require darkness for a good picture. You can use them in normal light with little or no picture distortion...
(I use mine at day time even with huge flourescent light in my living room on)

wish i could post pictures here so you could see what i am talking about

What am I missing ? The projector costs $600 and a replacement bulb costs $750 ?
