am writing this at home. Had a huge car accident this morning, my vehicle is totalled and I can't believe I am still alive with just cuts and bruises. A pickup truck pulling a trailer and being driven towards me suddenly made a left turn into a Turf Farm, right across my path merely yards away, as if I wasn't even there (sun was in their eyes) and I hit them broadside, really really hard. The car was flipped onto the drivers side, the engine was shoved back towards me, broken glass everywhere, there was smoke and hissing noises and I couldn't open any doors at all. I finally scrambled through a window. The people in the truck made no attempt to get me out, standing around outside saying "uh, golly gee mister, where the heck did you come from?"

Don't know what my work / transporation situation will be the next few days, but who cares, I'm still around and still in one piece (with sore chest).

Anyone else ever have a close call like this, and come out more than okay? I know I am v-e-r-y lucky.

1. Do not settle anything right away.

2. Injuries can appear down the road.

3. You may have suffered a concussion or traumatic brain injury. they will appear later as well. TBI's occur when the brain hits the skull forcefully.

4. Get an attorney possibly to protect your rights.

5. Insurance company is now your enemy. They love you when its time for you to pay them, but when its time to pay you, you become a criminal.

6. Check to see the statute of limitations in your state for filing a lawsuit.

7. DO NOT GIVE INSURANCE CO A RECORDED STATEMENT

8. Thank God you are alive.

9. Visit doctor often until you diagnose an injury and treat it or discover you truly suffered no ill effects

Lol... not to make light of the situation... but no kidding. It's like you'd be saying "well, the car wreck killed me, but damnit, at least I didn't settle on the case too early."

Glad you are okay three!! :103631605

Holy, that is GREAT info for anyone-especially in the US. Very accurate, and very beneficial.

I hate to say it, but if you have a real injury, you really do need to get an attorney. There is just too much BS that you can get pulled into and end up hurting yourself unless you know the legal game.

Yep, f*king true - when I think about the "generous" offer the insurers made me last year I still feel sick. The company stated complete damage of the car (in their terms and conditions it means that repair costs exceed 70% of the car's value) and offered me payout on the level of 50% of the policy. I thought someone's got to go back to the maths class. What's more amusing they seemed to feel that that was a fair offer

Lady luck was on your side. You really need to buy a lottery ticket to see if lady luck is still looking over your shoulder. Were you wearing a seat belt or did the air bag save you?

ThreeUnits, I'm glad you're ok, buddy. Wow. Could have been killed and just like that. Wow. I'm glad you're ok for the most part. I will say that HSmoke is right and you should be on the lookout for physical problems in the next while.

Anyway, God Bless and I'm glad you're ok. tulsa

Glad you are ok three

State Farm has always been decent for me, but then again, I will just walk in and grab a chair, then proceed to talk and talk. They may get tired of me talking and get me on my way. :103631605

ThreeUnits, great to hear your ok, sounds like a very bad day...

My wife, mother in law and I were in a 87 car pile up on the I70 in CO about 5 years ago, we were very, very lucky to be alive. We got hit from behind in the second wave of crashes (48 cars) back end crumple zone did it's job! The newlyweds 10 yards away from us weren't so lucky...Very sad and traumatic day for all...

Glad, you're okay. I had a close call about 5 years ago going 70mph, but wasn't hurt. I remember the helpless feeling, as my car was on skates, and I had no control after being hit. BTW, State Farm is good, if that's who the other driver was insured with. Try dealing with Allstate or Geico. All of them are a pain, but ask any body shop, and they'll tell you State Farm is tops.

Thanks everyone,
My company is State Farm, his is Lombard. The cop didn't seem too interested in assessing any blame, as if it didn't matter. Yeah, I am in Ontraio, Canada, where I believe we have no fault, whatever that means.
I will take Holy's advice to heart and be careful about what I say to them.
I just came back from driving over to the hospital where they gave me an ECG and said I was fine.
I was really scared though at the moment or two leading up to the crash. I distinctly remember thinking, so this is how it ends .....
Creepy.
