They had two of the elite players in the game (both were still young T Mac was a baby) and both are still in their prime, how do you lose both players?

And their draft tonight, I just couldn't imagine supporting an organization like this

:icon_conf

They should have did everythinjg they could to keep these two for the length of their careers...build around them...I realize money and ego was part of it...still makes no sense, two incredibly athletic players on the same team and now they have neither and have no identity.

Well T-Mac was a free agent there isn't anything they could of done. Darnell Walker there coach at the time sat him at the end of the bench to rot and T-Mac never forgave the Raptors so when he was able to bolt he did. Carter is a bum but they got ripped off when they traded him that was the problem there.

Carter wasn't a bum back then...its just a shame an organization could have such potential and it disolves ...they can't keep anyone up there.

It was obvious after the fact, but I always wished they would have kept T-Mac instead of Vince

Their draft and trades make me at least get over some of the Clipper moves.

After seeing what they did in this draft, this entire last 6 months has been a total embarrassment for this organization. The Raptors have no hope right now.

This whole T-Mac over Carter thing was pointless. T-Mac was a free agent he had the right to pick where he wanted to go too and Toronto wasn't where he wanted to be. Can't fault Toronto for that is just sucks that they had to let him go. Up until last year Toronto has had a good record when it came to drafting guys with Stoudamire, Camby, T-Mac, Carter, Bosh with only two real lemons Michael Bradley and Alex Radovich (spelling) but they were mid first round picks anyway in a draft class that wasn't very good.

What do you mean you can't fault them? They knew he wouldn't resign with them. TRADE HIM AND GET SOMETHING OF VALUE BEFORE HE CAN WALK.

Journeyman,

I am glad that you started this thread, because i was just about to vent myself.

this excerpt from cbs.sportlsine.com and the unprofessional outburst by ESPN totally undermines and overlooks all the hard work that the management took leading up to the #7 pick tonight.

CHARLIE VILLANUEVA, PF, CONNECTICUT: The first real surprise of the draft yields Villanueva to Toronto, which leads you to wonder what they're thinking up there. Is this the player New Orleans asked Toronto to take in a package for Jamaal Magloire? Doubtful. No wonder the Raptors brass was keeping this pick so close to the vest. GM Rob Babcock's days are numbered. (are you kidding me??!?)

I am native to toronto , I love all my pro sports teams, and after watching the coach sam mitchell and the GM Babcock explain their decisions @ a Press conference which all the americans will see later tonight and tommorow! - I am very happy that Villaneuva and Graham are going to be playing in a city THEY WANT TO PLAY IN!

I'm tired of players whining about playing in my city - so i'm glad they took the kids that expressed interest in coming to the GTA.

not many americans even know where toronto is, never mind care about out basketball teams.

and yes, some mistakes were made with TMAC and Vince, but the latter of two should have been shipped out for a bag of balls. What a disgrace to go to work every day and not give it your all.

I think things get blown way out of proportion, this draft was very strange all over the board. only time will tell.

but hey , this is the sports biz and people are always talking.

man that Vitale guy doesn't shut up!

I am excited to see these players play, especially joey graham and his hops!

The Raptors were going to the playoffs that year where they lost to the Knicks. The whole world knew he was going to Orlando. Orlando cleared that cap space to sign him and Duncan (got hill instead) What would another team really give up for a rental really.

ANYTHING was better than nothing. They weren't even giving him that many minutes.

The last year he was a starter what do you think a team is going to max out a player who doesn't even start at the time? If was before Butch Carter got there were T-Mac was left to died on the bench. T-Mac was the best player in the Knick series which is why he got maxed out by Orlando. Also around that time there were no (i should say few however) teams offering anything for T-Mac. Sadly the Raptors wanted to keep his rights for the playoffs and hope he'd resign. There were wrong.

Also kinda they did trade him in a sign and trade deal with Orlando but the Magic really didn't give up anything of real value since they didn't need too.

His last year in Toronto he averaged 15 pts and 6 rebounds...are you telling me they couldn't have found a team to trade them someone that could give them that with more than 1 year left on his contract? I hope you are kidding. He had a ton of value.

That Knicks series and his playoff performances were well after the trade deadline. Everyone in the NBA (including Toronto) knew he wouldn't be back...yet they didn't trade him. Instead, they got NOTHING. Even if they only got a draft pick for him...that is better than watching him walk for free.

I didn't realize that...that is better than nothing. But I still think they could have received more in return by trading him rather than being in that position at the end of his contract.

Who did they get with that draft pick?

The Raps should of traded him at the start of the year that I agree with. Mid year it wouldn't make much of a difference and would most likely hurt the team going into the playoffs and truth be told I've 99% sure Toronto moved that pick to another team (I think Houston) who ended up using that pick as part of the Eddie Griffen-Richard Jefferson deal....however i am not 100% sure.

I just hate when teams let guys walk as free agents. I go through it a lot with the Clippers.

Even if the player isn't great and you won't get much for him, at least trade him for a pick or someone with a few years left on his contract that can contribute...unless you are just looking for his salary to come off the books (Kerry Kittles this year for the Clippers).
