I'm shocked he didn't go in the first round. I know that the last pick of the first round gets about 2.5 million over three years. How do the non-guaranteed 2nd round contracts work? Will he make over $250K next year? I feel for the guy, especially since David Lee got that last guaranteed spot.

Look at this this way, atleast he knows he is going to make the Hawks no matter what since he comes cheap and the Hawks need bodies so if he plays well he could stand to make a lot of money since he becomes a free agent sooner.

In a way I feel bad for guys like Matt Walsh who were dumb enough to skip out on there final years only to not get drafted.

Fock, he may league the league in scoring. Awesome shooter will find his niche in the NBA.

No mock draft I saw predicted him first round so he didn't do that bad. He is an amazing shooter though and takes shots that look difficult to get off so I doubt the NBA is going to slow him down much. The real concern is how does he play the point when he is clearly a SG. He is far too small to play SG though, he can't defend the size of the position. His size really puts him in a difficult spot and he will have to learn new things to keep a starting job.

25 - Al Harrington (17.5 pts and 7 rebs)
23 - Salim Stoudamire
22 - Josh Childress (10 pts and 6 rebs)
20 - Josh Smith (Dunk Champion - 10 pts and 6 rebs with 144 blocks)
19 - Marvin Williams

That is a pretty nice nucleus to build around if they could keep them together...but there is no way they will.

This team is desperate for both a power forward and a center.

He is not in that bad of a position. He will start and play a lot of minutes for ATL as they have no one on there team. He could put up big numbers. They say he has as much talent as any guard taken but he is a head case. Always fighting with Lute. In fact he got asked to leave the Arizona and made a turnaround after that point. The guy shot over 50% for three point range last season. That is a sick stat...

If he shines, he does not have a rookie contract to wait on to expire and can get a major contract after his first year.

All rookie contracts now for second round picks are two year deals....Well one year and a team option for the second so he couldn't become a true free agent til year three

dmmd98,
Is that a new rule that came out of the agreement? I was under impression that these guys if they made the team got 1 year deals while first rounders got 3 year deals.

Been awhile since the old CBA so three years. If the player makes the team he gets a one year deal but most clubs either hold the option for a second year or he becomes a res free agent much like Matt Bonner and Pape Sow where the Raptors have the right to match any offer. A second round draft pick can be an unrestricted free agent after his second year which is what happen with Gilbert Arenas with Golden State.
