Well; every morning while I'm on the throne reading the Sportspage and drinking a cup of coffee, I have to say that I experience both!

I'd rather be filled with joy as an example a birth of a child then filled with relief as an example risking your entire bankroll on a play and having the side just hang on to win.

your analogy is not equitable.

here's a better analogy:

filled with joy - birth of a child

filled with relief - after believing for two months that the child would die of cancer...you receive news that the child will be totally fine.

this did not happen to me but, i use it to illustrate my point.

Good point however can i ask a question? How did you come up with this question to start with. Not trying to offend just to be perfectly clear. Curious is all.

i heard someone say that once and i didnt really believe it. however, today i experienced relief in a way that i never had before (nothing as big as a loved one being cured of cancer but...pretty big). anyway, i realized that relief is very underrated.

The worst pain hurts worse than the best joy can feel. Therefore, the relief wins in my book.

All depends if you are on a winning or losing run, when on a losing run, just one bet going right can be a great relief.

Relief is over rated due the the fact that pain/suffering/stress/tension is prerequisite for relief. Its kind of saying that being rescued is better than being safe. You dont have to go to depth of hell before you can learn to appreciate life!

As you have asked my opinion Blue, I assume that being a new parent recently, you will experience what all the rest of us have. Great joy in seeing your kids grow up and experiencing new horizons, being relieved when you hear stories of other peoples kids, that it doesnt happen to yours.

i hope you're right. and, dont get me wrong...i have nothing against joy. joy is good. i just think relief is better.

maybe its because joy is expected and relief isnt...i dont know.
