My 9 yr old wants a IPod and I don't know if he's too young for one of these or where abouts I start to buy one or he buys it. My understanding is that there around $200, play music, so here's my questios

1.Do you buy it like at Best Buy or Ebay?
2.Do you download these songs off the computer?
3.Is there a wide range of them and if so what brand should I be looking at?
4.Is used an option????

He probably wants the Ipod brand to keep up with everyone. If he is only 9 go with the small 4gb one for about $200. it will hold over 1000 songs.
We have 2 in the house and no complaints but have not reached the battery problem that is costly.

He needs to have Itunes downloaded on the computer. Its free from apple. and they do have weekly free downloads.
That will be the library. you upload your actual cd's onto Itunes then it transfers onto your Ipod.

Don't buy it used. You have to reconfigure it (erase the songs on there) to fit your personal Itunes.
As of right now, you cant trade music from Ipod to Ipod yet.

You can share Ipod to Ipod with the program called " ipod rip" . Its fairly simple to use as well. I have got roughly 6000 songs on mine and the only problem I have is wanting to listen to 20 songs at the same time...lol

Good Luck

My 13 year old son just got something called an Ipod shuffle for less than $100. You can load the songs on to it and choose to either run the list in order or shuffle. There is no display other than a couple of status lights, but there are normal play, stop, and skip type functions. For someone who is nine years old, it would appear to be a good compromise.

It looks like little more than a jump drive with some buttons on it.

(Of course, I say this as he bought it yesterday and, as of midnight last night, we haven't got it working yet, but I think it's a good product)

Shuffle has no display, so you can't see what song is currently playing, that's my biggest gripe. It is like the size of a pack of gum though, that's pretty cool, but I can see a 9 year old losing that in about 15 seconds.

DON'T BUY USED !!!!!

If the ipod was previously registered to another user, downloading from itunes will difficult/impossible.

Go str8 to the source

www.apple.com

They have all the accessories/downloads.

Ipod shuffle - $100.
