Rumors that the Marlins and Yankees are in negotiations to trade Sheffield for Burnett and Encarnacion. Could this be? Has anybody heard more on this matter.

I've also heard rumors that Baltimore is looking to trade for Jason Schmidt of San Francisco. Could be some fun come this deadline.

Gary Sheffield is an ass for his comments. The scary thing is that he will probably get his way because of it. It is amazing how the players and the players union dictate everything in this sport. The NHL owners are my heroes, can you imagine Sheffield being beat down like Roenick was. Sadly, I'll probably never live to see the day and I am 31.

i heard it on 790 too. fucking yankees, they think that we are there farm team or something. like as if steibrenner thinks the marlins are his, and he can pick and choose which players he wants to take up. first pavano, now burnett. next thing you know he'll be taking dontrelle and cabrera. i'd love sheffield, wow what a line up, but at the expense of burnett. i guess management figure they won't be able to afford to re-sign so they might as well. i mean he probably will end up a yankee any way

i've also read this rumor, that

The Marlins reportedly approached the Orioles last week with a proposal that would have sent Burnett and outfielder Juan Encarnacion, both potential free agents this winter, to Baltimore, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. In exchange, the Marlins would have received reliever Jorge Julio, outfielder Larry Bigbie and one of two young right-handers, Daniel Cabrera or Hayden Penn. Talks are thought to have been placed on hold, as the Orioles may also be considering dealing for Giants right-hander Jason Schmidt. --- yahoosports
