Atlanta (43-35) at Florida (39-36), 7:05 pm EDT
MIAMI (Ticker) - Josh Beckett hopes his blister problems are
finally behind him.
Beckett, who has missed the last two weeks with a blister on his
right middle finger, makes his return Thursday when the Florida
Marlins look to salvage a split of their four-game set with the
Atlanta Braves.
The 25-year-old Beckett (7-5, 3.35 ERA), who will be activated
before the game, was put on the disabled list three times in
2002 and twice last season with blister problems before exiting
his start on June 14 against the Chicago Cubs in the sixth
inning with a similar problem.
The 2003 World Series MVP, Beckett is just 3-7 in 11 career
starts vs. Atlanta despite a 3.13 ERA.
Roman Colon (0-3, 6.38) makes his second start for Atlanta after
making 18 appearances out of the bullpen. In his first career
start Saturday, he tossed six scoreless innings but did not
factor into the 5-4 victory.
The Marlins dropped the first two games of the series before
posting a thrilling 6-5 victory on Wednesday. Trailing in the
ninth, 4-2, Florida scored twice against Braves closer Chris
Reitsma to tie the game.
Andruw Jones gave Atlanta the lead in the 13th with his major
league-leading 25th homer, but Florida tallied twice more in the
bottom half, with Juan Encarnacion's bloop single plating
Miguel Cabrera with the winning run and snapping Atlanta's
five-game winning streak.
