While the Cubs will make a run, St. Louis would have to hit the skids and that won't happen. If they were in any other division in baseball, they could catch the leader. The Cardinals are too solid to hit the skids. They are playing .636 baseball so they would have to play .500 baseball the rest of the season while the Cubs won at that percentage for the Cubs to pass them. That won't happen.
Winning the central may be a slight stretch, but they are certain for a WC and its been proven over and over Wild Cards can win it all.
In the playoffs you go to a 3 man rotation, and no one can compete with Prior, Wood and Zambrono. Absolutly no one. The Cubs may not be the best team in a 162 game format, but in a playoff format no team is better.

By the way, im not a Cubs fan. Im a well documented Braves fan. The Cubs have cost me a ton of money this year. I have no allegance to them whatsoever.
But as a Braves fan, I know all too well the difference in a team conditioned for a 162 game scedule and a team conditioned for a playoff scedule.
Its 2 different kind of teams. A 4th and 5th starter is meaningless in the playoffs. But even at that Maddox and Rush are the best 4 and 5 guys in the game to boot.

Chop, I almost posted this same thing but I didn't want to come off as a Homer!!! This club is a much better hitting team than they were last year. Also, there isn't another rotation that can touch this one if(and a big if) they can stay healthy the rest of the way. Finally, when you have 14 games left with an opponent anything can happen.

Let`s see Wood is where, Prior 7-4 w/ 3.64, Z 8-4 not exactly tearing em up. No way you can compare them w/Clemens. Oswalt & Pettite or Carpenter, Mulder, & Morris. I think Brewers have a beter shot than the Cubs. WC will be Astros. Not as long as Baker is in town dumbest fuc*er in MLB. I do admire the Cub fans tho.
