Last fall, I sent large dollars to three off shore sports books. Guardian Guaranty, BoDog and Wagermall.
I funded all three accounts with cashier's checks that were FedExed to them.
I decided to call in all my money midway through the season. On Monday, Ocotber 18th I had $25K with Guardian, $19K with BoDog and $33K with WagerMall.
BoDog and WagerMall both paid promptly.
However, Guardian took my payout request and the CS folks acted like nothing was wrong. I called them two days later, still no tracking number. I can't remember what the excuse was, but eventually the excuse became this: You posted up with a cashier's check and we will not pay you until we are 100% certain it has cleared.
They received my post up check around Sept 1 and it had been 6 weeks. I remember talking with a guy named Mark Williams at Guardian and he insisted that it can take over 6 weeks for an international check to clear. I called my bank, Bank One, and asked them if it could in fact take that long to find out if an international check has cleared or not. They confirmed that it could take that long.
Long story short, Guardian paid me my entire payout request but it did take 16 days from the first request until I had a check in my hands.
Another thing that bothers me, and it probably shouldn't, but when I was on the phone with Mark Williams of Guardian, I explained that I was leaving all the funds in my 105 account...$6K...and that I was not requesting payment on that. For whatever reason, I've got a funny feeling that had a lot to do with me getting paid too. But it's probably just my imagination. You have to realize, at the time, I was afraid I was going to get stiffed.
Well, if you were me and you were looking for some solid books this fall, would you or wouldn't you consider Guardian Guaranty? I think any book that pays north of $20K without making the player get the Shrink and General involved is probably worth considering, but I did have to worry about getting stiffed for 16 VERY long days.
Thanks,
