i would have put this in hockey folder but was afraid that no one would see it.

If this was any normal offseason, what would be the starting date for the 2005-2006 nhl season?

is it mid october?

I for one can’t wait. The NHL will have parity that has never been seen before with such a low and restrictive cap placed on the teams. Bad news if you’re a Wings or Leafs fan but life saving for franchises in Pittsburgh , Chicago, etc.

If I understand it correctly each team will have a differant cap. pitt 22m det 50m etc. so except for a couple of old guys being let go i dont think much will change in year 1. it should be like baseball took a couple of years before the cap penalties kicked in for the mid market teams.

We wont know for certain what the exact parameters are on this deal until the T’s are crossed and the ink is dried but from what is being reported by numerous agencies the cap will be a max of 36 million and a floor of $22-$24 million. Most teams will be far over the minimum and I believe the gap between the have and the have nots will be a crack and not the chasm of the past.
