He averaged 28.8 points for them in 78-79 when they were in San Diego. They went 43-39 but that wasn't even good enough to make the playoffs!
In 79-80 he did average 30.2 points a game (2nd in the league). Walton injured his foot this season and only played 14 games. Swen Nater (Walton's backup in college) led the NBA in rebounding with 15.0 boards per game.
In 80-81 when I became a fan but was too young to really remember, the Clippers traded Free to Golden State.
