Dont be surprised if other teams copy what Lou Pinalla is doing starting the bullpen first. This gives the manager lots of options in a game. He has plans on starting a reliever for 2 innings and then going with the starter. Thats plan A. But what if this reliever has a low pitch count and gets the first 6 hitters out in order? This gives the D-Rays the option of pitching the reliever another inning or 2. If the reliever can get through 3 innings the starter who comes in in the 4th can pitch the rest of the game.
If a National league team did this. The could almost elimanate pichers from having to hit on some nights. When the first pitchers 2 innings are up, this will be about the time the pitchers spot comes up in the batting order. You can pinch hit for the pitchers spot.
I dont believe this will be a trend for teams with solid pitching, but you could see this a whole lot more in the future with bad teams.
