Posted before season started that Cardinals would be up 10 games on NL Central by the all star break. With 5 days to go, Cards up 12.5! In fact won division last year by 13 games so they have chance to have bigger lead at break than they did at end of 04. Long way to go to finish unfinished business but a great start so far!
arty: - I also made some predictions. Carpenter would be ace of staff with 20+ wins...looking nice right now....very strong Cy young candidate. I recall you saying Morris would be the best SP on the team...he's close...right there with Carp. 10-1 with a chance for 11-1 before all star break. To me the key is going to be getting another arm preferably left handed (Guardado,Wagner) in bullpen to help Izzy and another quality youthful outfielder to fill in for the old guys and start next year (Pena,Kearns,etc). Key for Cards is getting back to WS as if they do, they will finish it regardless who is representing AL. All star game is huge imo but with Larussa managing, I know they will be playing to win! All people remember is getting swept ly in WS but for past 1.5 years there has not been a better team and in fact they seem to be under the radar this year due to WS performance which is good.
Mulder has been very shaky and inconsistent. He pitched probably the best game in the bigs this year when he pitched a 10 inning complete game shutout vs. Clemens and the Astros. But has been very up and down but does have 9 wins.
Kojak...I just mentioned last night that I would like to see the Cards pick up Wagner. He's the type of player that everyone would not even think about but Jockety always seems to get those type of guys so I'm hoping for the same! will be interesting...would make best pen in the league that much better!!

I did say that about Morris and it was based upon how I felt Morris was affected by his injury ly, had pitched great in spring, had something to prove, and knowing how competitive he is. Big snub not going to all star game as he deserves it but Tony I am sure talked to him prior and maybe wanted time off. He is my comeback player of the year in NL!

In my opinion the atmosphere before and after a game has no better place than downtown St. Louis .... been a few years since I was there but drinks at TGIF or a quick dinner at Tony's before the game was always a great time....
The fans there know their team and always were gracious to my dumb azz from Atlanta ....
St. Louis = Cool & Friendly Town .... If you've never been, your missin out.

You get rings for winning the world series, not the pennant. He is fifth in all time loses and not even in the top 30 for winning percentage and when you add in his WS record he is hardly what I would consider a great manager.viking611 said:nope...just major leagues...won AL pennant 3 straight years.
