Spent a good deal of time Wednesday at the WSOP Lifestyle Show (aka Poker convention) and attended a few of the receptions/parties as well.
Some random thoughts:
1) BoDog has marketing down to a science. Hot-ass girls, some giveaways and throw big parties. They are about 2000 miles ahead of any other player in the online scene and that is why they are going to be a major player despite their "square" reputation.
2) There are about 20 new poker magazines coming out. I can't begin to name them all, but the term "jump the shark" comes to mind.
3) Refer back to #1. Some of these companies don't have a clue how to market. It's pretty simple: a) Hot Girls, b) give shit away, c) repeat.
The drabness of some of these sites promotions is almost pathetic.
4) The most hilarious site I saw was a line of like 40 people to get Doyle's autograph and then it went to 3 people when Todd Brunson stepped in.
5) Attended UltimateBet (at the Ghost Bar), Paradise Poker (Little Buddha), Cryptologic (Rio), and peaked in on BoDog (Rain) pre-WSOP parties.
Several nice spreads and giveaways. I'm becoming a bigger fan of the Cryptologic sites by the day, they do things right.
6) If you are a fan of poker players, you'll bump into one around every corner. Plus all the pseudo poker player/celebs (James Woods, Shannon Elisabeth, etc.)
7) Barry Greenstein, Marcel Luske, and Evelyn Ng are three of the classiest people in poker I will ever know.
8) I'm still puzzled why Diamond Dallas Page is signing autographs on Saturday. That one was a WTF?
9) Did i mention the BoDog girls yet? :hump:
