first time....is it expected/polite to come bearing gifts? If so what? Bottle of wine? How much should be spent on this occassion?

Going to meet the girlfriends parents tonight. Just wondering if I should be taking something along. :icon_conf

I always have the A-game going...how do you think i snagged this one.

I know her father is retired and golfs and smokes like a fish. Only drink Candian Club and Heinkein.

Mom likes wine, about all i know.

The folks live on long island, so it will be quite a treat for this small town guy.

I am leaning towards bringing nothing

Maybe offer the ole man a round of golf in exchange for some lessons as i hit in the 90-100 range and he is a 70's golfer.

I do think it is customery to bring something....even gaylord focker brought the parents something, that big ass flower pot....

I would like it to be something that favors the father over the mother though, in other words something that he would like, so that rules out the wine.
