The Sox designated Jay Payton for assignment and called up Rule 5 player Adam Stern from the Paw Sox. They also traded Ramon Vazquez to the Indians for Alex Cora. Both smart moves especially if they can get something in return for Payton. FISH what do you think?

Rule 5

Because Stern was a Rule 5 pickup, the Sox would have had to eventually make a decision to either promote him or return him to the Atlanta Braves (team Sox drafted him from). So this move was not a big surprise. The Red Sox have 10 days to trade or release Payton and are most likely to shop him for relief help. Payton has been vocal about his desire for more playing time.

Your probably right, but I think he would have caused problems down the line. However, that crying MFer Millar needs to shut his mouth and play ball. He thinks he's Don Mattingly and he ain't chit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With Foulke struggling, and the pen actually being below average, that is the must help area.

I thought Rule 5 guys have to be on the Big League Roster the whole time or be offered back. Can someone explain?

Stern was injured in spring training and his time was up. Either be moved to Boston or back to Hotlanta.

Frog, Foulke had knee surgery today and is now on the DL. The Sox are considering Shilling as a temporary closer. What your opinion on that?

I would use Timlin. He is the only arm in the pen doing much of anything. At least what I think. However, the reason he is going there is because they are hurting bad there. Immediate need and let him work a couple of innings to get back in rotation shape, you cannot fault that. I would use Curt setting up.

And the O's are starting a better one? You won't see Foulke blowing another save, that is for sure.

Fading and listless teams with players that may help frontrunners include Cubs, Phillies, Houston, Seattle, Fla, Balt, and SF?..They may provide some real "holes" help for the contenders very soon?

Schilling should be banned from baseball for opening his mouth last October! To think I used to admire that idiot! :icon_conf

St.Louis on cruise control from Day 1 like last summer..Atlanta always is in playoffs..Wasington's recent run to near 20 over mendoza is demoralizing the Cubs whom are dying..LAD catching SD the only prayer for an also-ran to sneek in..Hou, Philly, NYM, Fla all appear to lack enough to sustain monster win streaks.

Bost, CWS, & Anaheim look the divisional nuts..with NYY, Clev, and Minny scrambling for WC berth..Balt and Texas sliding with arm woes..Toronto still missing some key pieces.

It seems apparent that Bradford will be the player the Bosox get, but Theo did say that the deal wouldn't be completed until the All Star break, so instead of Bradford, could it maybe be Duchsherer?

He's on the All Star team, so I'm sure they wouldn't want to deal him before the game.
