They're the definition of a recreational player's book. If you bet large and tend to win, BCN is not for you. If you bet low $$$, they won't chase you away - and they have some interesting lines and occasional promos.

I've always wondered how these books decide whether a player is recreational or not... is it purely betting off lines, or do they have some other kind of indication?

Noticed the term at a few places, but it never seems to make much sense...

good question Santo, cause I won something like my first 11 bets at BCN and not a word...

Possible..

I've never had the term used against me, even if I'm betting $500-$1000 or so.. but I always worry whether some book will use it as an excuse to confiscate winnings somewhere down the line.

I once contemplated opening an Oasis account, but they had some wording about European players on their game. So I emailed for clarification and got this in response:

We have no problem giving anyone a bonus, however most sports players we
get from outside the US are betting steam, moving money on games for
someone or only bet if they see a line off. We will give you a bonus but
want you to know if you bet steam or are part of a syndicate that we
don't want the business and we will take the bonus, fees and winnings
made with the bonuses when we close the account.

Tried to sign up and their signup page is not working. Called to let them know and instead of just doing it over the phone, she wanted me to do it again online. Still didn't work, screw it. I'm not calling them back. They could've had a new customer today.

small shop

but they had 7-1 3-teamers for football last year. That is expected hold of 0%

What size of bets do you guys think books start to notice?

As I recall, at BCN I placed 6 bets. All would have been in the $500 - $1000 range. I was ahead a couple hundred dollars when they cut my limit to $100. I was not betting steam and I'm not part of a syndicate - but I was only betting soft lines. (I only ever bet soft lines anywhere.)

I phoned them to confirm that reduction was permanent and, when told it was, withdrew the funds. That was handled very professionally and there was never any threat of them confiscating the bonus or anything.
