Palmeiro just hit a 3 run homer off Boston's Wade Miller - he has 565 career homers and 2996 hits right now. Only Hank Aaaron, Willie Mays and Eddie Murray have both 500 homers and 3000 hits during their careers. Palmeiro will join some select company in the next day or so. Unfortunately Palmeiro has not made it to a World Series in his long and now very illustrious career.

personally I do not think he makes the HOF. No outstanding history of post season play.

Am I wrong?

With 500 HR and 3000 Hits, he absolutely HAS to make the HOF. But he would probably be the most under-the-radar guy to make it. I heard a stat last week, and correct me if I'm wrong, that Palmeiro has never finished in the top 10 in MVP voting in any given year. He's not a one-big-season guy, obviously, but the career stats speak for themselves.

I don't think his lack of postseason excellence will keep him out. If anything, his "secondary" star status on every team he's played on will keep him out. He's never been the big name on any team he's played for, even though his numbers have been great. He has always been overshadowed, whether it be by Cal Ripken, the Rodriguez's, Tejada, etc.

He has also never finished in the top 5 in MVP balloting ever, if I remember correctly. He's been unspectacularly spectacular.

I hope he makes it though. Sweetest swing you'll ever see, #'s that warrant a HOF plaque, and a great guy.

He is a stone lock to get in the HOF with the numbers he will end up with. He has an outside shot at 600 homers. Like I said only 3 players with 500/3000 - he will make 4 this week (needs 4 hits).

Speaking of 3000 hits

Of the 25 members of the 3000 hit club: Tampa Bay's Wade Boggs is the only player to hit a home run for hit No. 3,000, doing it against Cleveland's Chris Haney in 1999. There has been one triple (by Minnesota's Paul Molitor), six doubles and 17 singles. Murray (1995) and Aaron and Mays (each 1970) all had singles.

A little more Palmeiro trivia

Palmeiro and Sammy Sosa are the first teammates from the 500-home run club, and they came into the season with a combined 1,125 career home runs, the most ever by teammates. The Yankees' Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig finished 1934 with 1,056.

Palmeiro is a lying POS.. That POS took steroids most of his career and then had the balls to lie about it in the Senate hearing.. Even using the Race card on how him and his family came from Cuba or wherever he is from and the hardships they faced.. He has done nothing since he has been off the juice..I hope like hell he doesnt make it... Then he can complain how he was discriminated against that cheating bastard.

Palmero is a lock for the Hall. Those numbers are Big Time Hall of Fame numbers. Juan Gonzales won 2 MVP's with TX, will he make it? Plamero hit behind him some years, can't remember if they were the MVP years or not.

LOCK for the HOF...almost 600 Homers , 3000 hits mind boggling , and no one gives him any respect....I think his lack of post season play hurts him some, but he is a LOCK.... very quietly approaching 600 Hr's , I think he will fall just short of that.

Funny, I would want him on my team, but do we really think of him as a great?

I guess he has to be a first ballot, but he doesn't belong in the rarified air of the other greats.... even thoogh his career numbers will match.

Let me put it this way, you need to win a World Series, you want Raf in his prime or Jim Rice? And Rice ain't even in the Hall.

The more I think about, I believe he will reach 600...He could end up close to 30 this year and one more solid year would do it for him....
