Which book(s) or website(s) should I start reading? I've been to JR Miller's site, it had some interesting articles and many books for sale. If possible, can some of the pros here narrow the list down to essential reads?

For Football I would highly recommend:
The Unemotional Football Bettor by Scott Kellen
Win More Lose Less by Don Peszynski
Football Betting's Cutting Edge by Kevin O'Neill
Football Betting Strategies for the Smart Player by Kevin O'Neill

For general Sports Betting info:
Sharp Sports Betting by Stanford Wong

All can be purchased thru Gamblers Book Shop, www.gamblersbook.com

Pay attention to: Fezzik, Wantitallformoi, D2BETS, Fishhead and several other poster's here. Soon you will recogize the on ones that truely have an edge; follow and emmulate.

One cannot put a price on " Livin' and Learnin'."

(could be costly, mind you)

In other words..I'll take practical over theory ANY DAY !

Agree with the other posters;regarding to pay close

attention to the "sharper" players here at the Rx.

I wouldn't advise listening too much to anything JR Miller has to say

forums are the best place to learn, IMO, most books are worthless...no one is going to give you the secrets to getting rich for $29.99.

But if you want to buy one, the best ones are mentioned in this thread

Stanford Wong's book is good if you need a refresher on the basic math

Scott Kellen's book is good for "situational handicapping"

I guess the question is: what do you want to learn?

If any of these authors really had a clue they would not have to write books. They would be retired or building golf courses.

Frog-- That is not true and you know it.

Many people make a good living wagering on sports that are willing to share their expertise with others.

I know Fishy, but it does get you to think. When I venture to Vegas I buy every single book that looks worth reading at GBC. Even bs with Schwartz. Spelling?

Froghead--- Yours trully has spent as much time loitering at the GBC as many of the watering holes that I have frequented in Vegas.

Have had some good friends that have worked there in the past and currently still have a few that still do.

Do you know Billy that works there?

Not necessarily. Some are good in the theoretical part of it but have bad habits like Stuey Ungar had. All gamblers tend to have a weakness that almost always leads them astray. I follow some of the guys above..

There are many talented gamblers who are contributing to the gambling world with writing. The idea that you only share if you can't do it is ridiculous. Even if the smartest alive shared wisdom, chances are good few would notice it because knowing and applying knowledge are two divergent things. Dan Harrington is a World Champ and incredibly accomplished player, yet he wrote two great books on poker. Obviously he isn't too worried about it is he?

I have met a number of these people in the poker world over the last two weeks and will feature one I just met yesterday in an upcoming article. For those who only look at sports and don't at least pay some attention to poker you are missing out. The knowledge poker can impart into your sports play and strategy can't be underestimated.
