You mention video poker in the same sentence as sportsbetting, in the Greg Raymer thread. Then further down you state GN video poker is marginal, one has to put alot of hours to show profit. Is it possible you win consistently in video poker? How?

Yes

All video poker is regulated in the state of Nevada by the Nevada Gaming Commission, thus all video poker in the state is held to strict standards as being a 100% fair game.

Knowing this, one can take the payouts on any given machine and calculate when using optimam PERFECT strategy on every hand if it will payback over 100%.

For example, full pay(term used for good variation 100+% games) dueces wild returns 100.72% with perfect stategy.

So what this means is that for every $100 you put through the machine, you will be making 72 cents over the longhaul using perfect strategy.

The math than would workout like this on a $1 full-pay dueces wild machine................

Five coins in per hand would equate to $5 per hand x 800 hands per hour = $4,000 per hour. If you were making 72 cents for every $100 played than you would be making 72 cents X 40(4000 divided by 100) which eqates to a $28.80 per hour win rate over the long haul.

If you were playing this in a 25 cent variety, you would obviously make 25% of that rate, or $7.20 per hour over the longterm.

Your win rate will actually be much better than that, as this does not include cashback and comps gained from your slot card, cash/gift mailings, and various promotions that casinos randomly have that will add to your bottom line.

The above is just one example(dueces wild), but there are a vareity of games that pay over 100% with perfect strategy.

Please note, many casinos have weakened their video poker selection to include much less 100% games, especaillly those above the quarter vareity.........but there are still nuggets in the valley.

Where is UP HERE?

Although I believe the MAJORITY of video poker to be on the up and up OUTSIDE THE STATE of NEVADA, it certainly does not have the regulation that Nevada has..................expecially on casino boats and Indian Reservations.

Yeah it is nice, new hotel, restaurants, I like it better (appearance, hospitality) than any casino in atlantic city, just hard to get a good poker game in the winter, after cottage country ends. Video poker machines are terrible however. Actually when it first opened, there was a row of video poker machines that paid well, they then changed them to one armed bandits. If your ever up here fish let me know!!

You will know which machines have the best payouts by simply looking at the pay table on each individual machine.

A book that I have recommended for years to aspiring professional video poker players is.............

Study hard and do not become intimidated when starting out.

It becomes relatively easy with time.

In addition to the book you will need to purchase this software so you can apply your learnings at home.

THIS IS A MUST HAVE..............

BOB DANCER'S WIN POKER
by Dancer, Bob
Order 223301...$30.00
The player first chooses a game, say double bonus poker. That choice brings the basic game to the screen. If that's what you want to study, practice and play, just jump right in. But, if you want the quadruple play or double-up version, you can get that from the options menu. Each game comes with a "tutor" that you can turn on and off, to give you warnings -- and exact percentage of your error -- which are tallied behind the scenes so you can check the number of minor, moderate and major errors you've made. There are 15 games included in the software ... but, there's also a user-defined option where you can tell the computer to emulate any pay scale you want. The software will analyze the pay scale and compute the proper playing strategy for you and add it to the error messages. You can save the user-defined game. Requires PC/Win 95 or 98, 2mb free space.

Order here...........

Is that a new cover? It used to be just black with white letters right? Guess he is going for a flashier look.

IMO the software is much better than the book. Depends on your learning style I guess. If you can learn by trial and error, software should be pretty much all you need. Book is useful for giving you the "simple rules" and also bankroll info if you need some help there.

x800 hands per hour = $4,000 per hour.

----------------------

How many casino sportsbook employees who average between 8 and 12 bucks an hour could ever sit down and comfortably play max bet on a dollar machine and suffer a long losing streak before becoming homeless or killing themselves ?

That's a pretty good pace too, an hour of that would be kind of mentally tough until you had all the rules thoroughly memorized. Somewhat like counting cards at first.

I agree the swings could be huge.

It becomes second nature when you have the strategy down pat on a particular game after playing it day in and day out.

800 hands an hour is the AVERAGE amount of hands the average pro plays per hour...............600-1000.
