Word was spreading that raymer threatened to kill a spectator at the WSOP for making a comment to his wife about his daughter. Raymer issued this public comment at the 2+2 forum:

My wife was sitting in the press area, where only press and staff are allowed. She got special dispensation from the staff to be there. Some guy comes in who is not allowed, sits next to her, and starts asking her all about our daughter. He wants to know where she is, who's watching her now, what she looks like, and my wife is totally freaking out from his questions and attitude. She asks to have him removed, and tells me what was going on. I look at him on the rail a minute later, and he's pointing at her, pointing at me, talking to people in the crowd, and has a psycho-mad look on his face.

I stand up and tell him to watch himself. He has an even angrier look on his facee, and yells out that he was just asking about my daughter. My immediate reaction, based upon his demeanor and attitude is that he really is a threat. I told him that if he messed with my daugher or family, I would kill him. I shouted all this across a 20 foot gap, and yes, everyone could here it, and it happened.

And I wasn't lying. If anybody messes with my family, I'm going to kill them as certainly as I possibly can.

Later, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

Personally, if this is what happened, you cant really blame raymer for his actions.

The way Raymer explained it, you can't blame him. The proper thing to do is to ask security to remove him from the area.

Can't blame him at all either. Wonder if he was friends with someone else at the table or something trying to put Raymer on tilt? Very bizarre situation.

Obviously, this type of attention from the crazier segment of the population is a direct result of Raymer's new fame and recent success. The better he plays and the more attention he gets, the more likely he is to be stalked. Unfortunate, but not totally unexpected. Just ask Ugeth Urbina, or Charles Lindbergh, or Randolph Hearst..

Let me get this straight, you guys are rooting for him now because he threatened to kill a spectator for harrassing his wife.

Kudos to Raymer for confronting the guy, but it certainly is not going to entice me to be rooting for the guy to win the WSOP Main Event.

YES. The reason I have not rooted for him in the past bc he always acted a little bit on the sissy side. I know he was the better man by not putting Arieh in his place last year but I am glad to know he will do what is necessary when needed.

He fought off two muggers last year near his hotel room.

Raymer

Raymer rebuilds his stack 16:24:37 EDT

With a flop showing [Q][J][6], Raymer checked and called Farzad Bonyadi's 30k bet. The turn brought a [4] and a 100k bet by Raymer. Bonyadi called and then called Raymer's 300k bet on the [J] river. Raymer showed [6][6] for a full house and Bonyadi folded, putting Raymer's stack back over 1 million.

Reminds me a little of the scene in Blues Brothers movie where Belushi makes a scene in the restaurant telling some guy "I want to buy your daughter".

I didnt buy that story..taxi driver told me about it and it sounded way too insane!!! may be he added some juice to it but i thought it was one of those crazy vegas stories that have been shared one too many times in bars around vegas

Ps..Raymer better watch his mouth. I know i would feel the same way if some one talked about my family like that but i would not be dumb enough to make threats against the person's life in a public setting...In this day an age you can easily get slapped with making a threat, (even a terrorist threat like some dumb
ass prosecutor tried to slap on Allen Iverson)..

He better pray that the authorities dont look into that matter too seriously.

Wow, I'm surprised at you, Fish. Raymer's wife gets stalked/threatened by some psycho, Raymer defends his wife, and you don't find that behavior to elicit sympathy from you? Maybe there's a good reason why you don't have a wife. As a husband and father, I am completely empathetic with Raymer and will definitely be rooting for him.

Correct me if Im wrong, but didn't I give him KUDOS for his stand?

Raymer is one of my favorite players at the WSOP, so I am playing devils avocate somewhat here, however I don't see how this incident could make one pull for him to win the event.

To be honest, I really could care less who wins this event at this stage. :103631605

The flop comes 10h-5s-4c, and both players are quickly all in. Butt shows pocket queens (Qh-Qc), but Sheikhan has pocket aces (Ac-Ad). Butt is the shorter stack, and must catch a queen to stay alive (two outs). The turn card is the Kd, the river card is the 3h, and James Butt is eliminated in 54th place, earning $173,880.

In other featured table news, Joseph Stillman has been moved to the ESPN stage, and he's sitting in seat 9.

I know one of the guys got arrested and either went to jail or something like that, so it must be true. I will look for the article.....

Sounds to me like Raymer got angry because someone looked at, or simply spoke to, his wife and he's trying to come up with an excuse as to why he made a threat. Too bad the guy didn't challenge him to back his mouth up with action on the spot; I don't think fat-boy would have much of a chance against anyone with any kind of knowledge of combat.

unless he got remarried since the last time I saw his wife, I doubt he really would have to worry about some guy hitting on her.
