Ebbers, 63, was convicted March 15 of directing an $11 billion accounting fraud at WorldCom, once the second-largest long-distance company, between 2000 and 2002. The company filed the largest bankruptcy in U.S. history in July 2002, after the fraud was discovered.

Jones ordered Ebbers to report to prison on Oct. 12. She said she would recommend Ebbers be designated to the federal prison in Yazoo City, Miss., close to his home.

The judge said she would accept written arguments from the lawyers on whether Ebbers should be allowed to remain free while he appeals the verdict.

I would make a run for it...........somehow, someway!

This guy ruined so many lives, he deserves to live the rest of his life out of a cardboard box in a urine soaked alley.

One of our guys at work was a former salesman for WorldCom who had been laid off after the MCI meltdown. He pulled the news article from CNN about getting sentenced and forwarded it to a bunch of ex-MCI work buddies sarcastically asking for cigarettes and card donations to be sent to Bernie Ebbers via email.

One of the replies he got back was,

"Fvck you, Joe. While you were able to cash in some options and buy a home in Dunwoody (an affluent suburb of Atlanta) I listened to the prvck when he held a stockholders meeting telling us this will all turn around. Now I use those stock certificates to wipe my ass. Fvck that rat bastard".

Bottom line: He deserves his sentence, no doubt.

He is either going to die in prison and get out after 5 years or something. I wonder how long before he can apply for parole. I hope someone makes him their bitch

It was a federal sentence-which means no parole. The best he can hope for with good behavior is about 21 years, which is more than his ticker will be able to take.
