The Los Angeles Lakers plan to trade for Kwame Brown.
The Lakers have a deal to send Caron Butler and another player, likely Chucky Atkins, to the Wizards for the first pick in the 2001 draft, the Los Angeles Times reported in Thursday's editions.

Neither L.A. general manager Mitch Kupchak nor Washington president Ernie Grunfeld commented to the paper.

The Wizards could take Devean George instead of Atkins. Brown's stay in Washington has been checkered.

He averaged 7 points and 4.9 rebounds in 42 games last season, slightly below his four-year career averages of 7.7 points and 5.5 rebounds. He has yet to fulfill the potential that made him the first high school player to go first in an NBA draft.

He was suspended for most of the postseason after missing a practice and Game 4 of the Wizards' first-round playoff series against the Chicago Bulls.

The Wizards aren't losing anything with Kwame...good move, he would never develop here, he's worn out his welcome...now he can go to L.A. and prosper, like Wallace and Hamilton did when they left.

Great trade for both teams in my opinion...the Lakers are hurting in the front court and Brown has potential.

Butler took 13 shots a game...add another 5-7 shots a game to Kobe's total now.

I think Butler could still be a 20 PPG man...he didn't fit in in L.A. with all those players needing the ball....good move for both teams

Wizards still need front-court help, but thank god we got something back for Kwame. Caron Butler should fit in nicely...and he actually DEFENDS, something the Wizards don't do a whole lot of. Butler should help on both ends of the floor, and he's not a guy that NEEDS a ton of shots to be happy. I think he'll mesh well with Arenas and Jamison. But they definitely still need a big man that can be a scoring threat on the block.

Also, rumor has it that Miami has been talking to Juan Dixon. That'd suck if he left, from both a publicity standpoint as well as on the court. He provides instant offense and gets after it on D. If he got the same minutes that Hughes did, I guarantee you he leads the NBA in steals. Anyone that has watched him play consistently for the past two years would agree. I'm not saying he's a great defender, but he has unbelievable defensive instincts.

But yeah anyways...thank god Kwame's gone. If he plays well for L.A., though, I'll personally fly there and projectile vomit all over him.

Then who will play 2 guard. They need to have 2 guards out there...

Roster:
Point Guard:
Tierre Brown Sasha Vujacic

Shooting Guard:
Kobe Bryant Tony Bobbitt Von Wafer

They will have to make some move for a guard. They cannot play the 4 listed above extended minutes and plan on being slightly competive.

Jordan's a fuckin prick- took over the VP role, FIRST thing he says is "we're going to be a winner this year, no excuses."
Wizards suck, Jordan says "oh well i needed some time to get my own guys in here, this coming year you guys will see what me and this team are capable of (VP and the team)."
wiz suck again, Kwame doesnt improve becuase Jordan refuses to play him over Charles Oakley, wiz miss the playoffs, Jordan says "these guys just don't play hard, haven't developed what it takes to win."

Jordan's an arrogant bastard. had he never come, Kwame would be a double-double guy by now hands down, if not better. him and collins broke Kwame's spirit. he's immature and stupid, but would have been way better by now. screw you jordan

His young age is really irrelevant compared to the Lakers plans for him though.

The whole sticking point in this trade the last few days was the Lakers only want 2 years guaranteed on his contract. They want him to come off the books in case Amare Stoudamire or Yao Ming take advantage of the opportunity to become free agents in 2 years.

Stat ain't going nowhere. Colangelo said he will have an extension signed by the end of the summer, just needs to get JJ signed first. In the NBA there is no reason to test the market unless your team isn't giving you the max extension unless you really think playing in NY or LA is necessary for your endorsements. I can't see Yao leaving either.

Jordan is absolutely clueless when it comes to talent...he would have taken Darius Miles #1 overall.

I can't see either of them leaving...but staying for money wouldn't be the reason. Both of them could make more in endorsements plus salary in LA without question.
