Just stay away from Alamo. Waited 2 hours for a car from Alamo last time I rented one in Vegas.

I forgot to check rates for compact, which is a one class upgrade from economy size andyou get a Dodge Neon. I wouldnt buy one, but have had them before and they are fine for driving around Vegas for a few days. Only 14 bucks a day.

Cancelled the $13.95 a day economy vehicle. not sure what kind of car that would have been.

Mr. Smith, I am guessing that your $13.95 day rate will come to $30 a day after all taxes and mandatory insurances are included. At least that's how Thrifty here in Vegas works. They quote you $90 per week, and when you go in to get your car, it comes to $160-$180 a week when all is said and done. But maybe Economy car rentals are better that way....

its 4 days at $14 per day, total with taxes is $87.73. or $21.94 per day.

rental car taxes are very high in Vegas. $14 is about as low a base rate as you can get though, so its a good deal. I decline all insurance they offer and return the tank full, so I am not charged anything extra. I'll pay $87.73 in the end.

For anyone who wants to see the city or hit the strip or places like the Rio or Palms, a car rental like this is MUCH cheaper than taxis. A cab from downtown to the center strip will run about $20 each way including tip. Plus with a car you can try out nice places like green valley ranch, sunset station or the suncoast that otherwise would cost way to much to get to in a cab.

just dont drive after boozin :drink9:

dollar has " fastlane" which is their express line. You can sign up for fastlane membership ( its free) at their website. I would really, really reccomend this for anyone who rents from dollar. they sometimes have LONG lines to pick up your car, but fastlane will only be 0-2 people waiting.

last thing you want after a long flight is a long rental car line. if you dont have fastlane, I would try to get it before you rent and make the reservation with your fastlane number.

usually they are very fast on returns and to get a shuttle but last time I waited 15 mins for a shuttle to airport and it contributed to me very nearly missing the flight. ( I was cutting it close on making my flight cause I was on a very good blackjack run at the Hard Rock).

You might want to check, but when I have used fast lane you do not need to stop at the counter at all with Dollar.Get on the bus, tell the driver you are a member, go pick out a car in the class you reserved, drive to the exit, give the person in the booth your liscense. The first couple times you use they wil give you coupons for free upgrades.Depending on the time the lot attendant will let you upgrade without one if you ask nicley.or slip them a $20.Just some ideas. Also Alamo has some good deals running especially if you prepay but the lines are at times long and the return location is not with the others but past the airport thru the tunnel.Sign up fastlane it is free and easy

Thanks for the heads up. I already had a Dollar rental for a week but I rebooked and cancelled. I'm quite comfortable with the Dodge Neons they use. As I'm arriving early and staying at The Orleans I need a car to check out Wynn and the poker elsewhere. Remember always park in the covered parkades, they should be a fairly constant 95-100.

I rented from Dollar in LV last week. Got a neon at the reduced rate and have no complaints. They have a location just off the airport on Swenson St that I find quicker to use than the airport location. I don't know why they have locations within a half mile of each other but the off site sends a van to get you. Unless you get lucky with the timing on the shuttle the van will get you to the lot quicker.

I did the math on a recent rental here that I drove down to San Diego. It was 48% tax! Unfrickenbelievable. Its not really a tax rate though, its fees. This fee, that fee. Its insane. I guess they know few people rent a car from the airport here that live here so they hope we all don't see it and the tourists just are willing to pay like they always are.

The fees are lower in the "neighborhood" offices, but the rates are jacked up there. The car I got was $14.99 at the airport and $22.99 at the office at the MGM. Even with the taxes its still cheaper at the airport, but just be ready to scream when you see how a $60 bill becomes $90.
