<!--startindex-->DES MOINES, Iowa -- A former Iowa Hawkeye basketball player was in court Thursday after he was arrested and charged with domestic assault.
Bradley Lohaus, 40, played for the Hawkeyes from 1982 to 1987. He then spent more than 10 years playing for the Celtics, the Bucks, the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs. He left professional basketball in the late 1990s.
Lohaus is charged with domestic abuse assault without intent, NewsChannel 8 reported.
He appeared in court in handcuffs Thursday morning.
Lohaus was arrested by the Clive Police Department at about 1:45 a.m. Thursday at the Courtyard Inn at 1620 NW 144 St. in Clive.
Lohaus and 23-year-old McKinsey Gonder were in a room at the Courtyard Inn when Gonder called the front desk asking for help, according to a police report.
When officers arrived, they heard arguing and found Gonder had a split lip and a bump on her head, a news release from the Clive Police Department said.
Gonder told police that Lohaus had tried to stop her from leaving the room and the two got into a "wrestling match," according to the police report.
Because the couple has a child together, they meet the requirement under Iowa's law for Lohaus' arrest, the news release said.
Officers said Lohaus was cooperative during his arrest.
This isn't the first time Brad Lohaus has had trouble with the law, NewsChannel 8 reported.
Lohaus was charged with fourth-degree theft for an eBay sale he that failed to make good on, police records show.
In July 2004, Lohaus sold a fly rod online and accepted payment, but he did not deliver the merchandise, according to Iowa City police records.
Lohaus also had his driver's license suspended for non-payment of traffic tickets, police records show.
