6 max:

players are usually worse
more hands/hour = your edge is realized faster = more $$$$$
rakeback is way better (obv you are paying rake faster, not more just faster)

2 reasons i don't play the short handed or the turbo's.and sure as hell not both.lol

#1....not good enough. i think its doyles new book that recommends only expert players at short handed tables, he gives a detailed explanation of why that although i dont recall it now it was all i needed to confirm what i already knew....stay away

#2....i play to tight to be posting blinds every 4 hands

I think Doyle was referring to 9 or 10 handed tables that happen to be short. When the games are 6 handed by design they create a different dynamic. Short games are common at higher limits and with more talented players. The top cash game players are all used to playing short handed so you are at a disadvantage. I don't think Doyle was referring this advice to a 3/6 game with a 5 or 6 player max.

As for your second point, well there is an obvious solution, you need to change your style. If you have a style that works and you don't want to change then you are wise to avoid the shorter tables. Simply put you need to raise more early and call more late at these tables.

you can play tight and play 6 handed. just have to learn to adjust your hand selection slightly. since there are less players the quality of your each hand increases. and the level of player is alot lower.

You tend to get paid off more often short handed since the other players always think you are bluffing shorthanded. That works to my favor since i usually play my big hands fast and they inevitably keep calling me down with weak hands such as middle pair

It is proper strategy to call with middle pair most of the time in heads up situations. As I said before, raising and play agressive early, call late. Basic shorthanded strategy, really applies to about anytime you are going at it heads up from before the flop.

which is why i raise off the bat with big hands, you get callers. You make a decent sized bet on the flop, they call and the pot keeps growing, by the river the pot has grown to the point that you can make a pretty big bet and they have committed themselves.

calling with middle pair as a rule is a very risky proposition against players that realize that you will do that. Once in a while, if a player is getting overly aggressive it is good to call with middle pair just to slow him down. even if you lose the hand it will make him think twice before he tries to bluff you off a pot.

Like all poker, it is all situational.
