Was stationed in Pearl my last couple of years. There is a lot of stuff to see. Of course make your required stop at the Arizona memorial. If you want the high end strip, Waikiki. The low end strip, Hotel Street. Be careful of Mahus. Guys dressed like girls. They are prevalent, and prey on ignorant tourists. North shore is dangerous to howlies. Nonislanders. Keep away from there. Take the windjammer or island hopping cruises, as 80% of the islands population is on Oahu. Get off of there as fast as possible.
The big Island is awesome. Hawaii. Stop there for sure. Live volcano, black and white sand beaches. Probably the most scenic for early volcanic sights. The newest island of the chain. Maui is land of rich and famous. Lot of expensive things there, old plantations, real nice clubs. I could not afford it.
Make sure you hit the garden isle, Kauai. It has the best forests. The oldest island, garden of Eden. Na Pali coast is excellent, world class hike. Stay on the trail, if you find a pot patch, run, do not walk, away. Helicopter ride out of Princeville. Also do a zodiac trip. Rent a car, drive the coastal highway. Lot of white sand beaches. There is a campground, on top of a mountain, overlooking Na Pali, one of the best scenic overlooks in the world, when not cloudy. Most rainfall or wettest spot in the world. Far fewer tourists get to the outer islands. Waterfalls, swimming holes and little rivers are off the beaten path.
Molokai used to be the leper colony, you could ride a mule and gawk at them. Maybe disbanded. Generally speaking, be very careful, in the water, tides and currents are unforgiving, as are reefs and rocks. I almost killed myself on three seperate occaisions. Snorkel and body surf in close, and scout out all rocks, and currents before entering water. Most importantly, treat everyone with respect, they will kick your ass faster than you can say pass the pig. Keep away from the mokes, Samoans. They fight for amusement, and are scary to everyone, even locals. Remember we forced their queen to abdicate, and stole their islands. I assure you they remember. Have a great trip.
