I have read on the RX that anything writting by Kevin O'Neil is a must read for handicapping football. what are some good reads as far the other sports go? Looking for mainly NBA, NHL, and college basketball.

Your two main hockey writers for handicapping the NHL will be BRYDE and ROSS.

Thanks Fishead. You are definetly a proponent of video poker. Never played it much myself. Are their good games to be had in Vegas still?

Sure, but not in the same abundance of years past, but still good plays can be found.

Been removed from the Vegas scene for three years, so not near on top of the situation as in years past.

By the way, I think you will enjoy and learn from Kevin O'Neils handicapping football essays, know I have over the years.

Here are the books in my library, I wont post the poker ones, because I have like 30. Although, a little known goodie is Real Poker 2- the play of hands by roy cooke, best book for playing live. After you have read the required stuff from twoplustwo publishing.

Superbookie- neat book about early 90s vegas books.
The Odds- cool story about 3 gamblers in vegas, and the death of what they know as sports betting.

comp city- how to get the most from gambling in vegas

bringing down the house
gambling theory and other topics
powerful profits- video poker book
million dollar video poker
getting the best of it- sklansky on gambling
burning the tables in vegas
sharp sports beting- the bettors bible
book on bookies- james jeffries, good book on how to operate your own book

john patricks sports betting- a book I have yet to read, beacause after the first sentence I put it down "this is one part of the book you wont't like, becaue yo uwont belive the message: in gabling our chances of winning are never better than 50-50" he then goes on to explain that in roulette, poker, sports betting yada yada, you either win or you dont, you only have a coinflip chance of winning, which is completely ridiculouis. This guy is a moron.

the mathematics of games and gambling

couple pool books on hustling, and how to play etc

if you want a review of any poker book let me know, Im sure I have read it.

2 great books on basketball. First is "Investing in College Basketball" by Seidel. This has the content and detail most pros would never give out, since I doubt he realizes how valuable what he knows is. The second is "Basketball on Paper" by Oliver. It focuses on the big picture, and how player and strategy changes can affect things. It is a must-read for prop players.

Just finished "One of a Kind" about Ungar and am about half way thru ''The Professor, the Banker and the Suicide King " about Andy Beal and the biggest poker game ever. Both good reading....

A coming book "Professional Poker" by Mark Blade gets about a high a recommendation as I can get. I will write more about this in an upcoming column. Its a unique title, something completely different from most books and fills in a very important whole. Sort of along the lines of "Gambling for a Living", but at a more specific level. Has something for everyone from high-stakes pros down to the very recreational player.

Jr Miller vs. Kevin O'Neill

Is like comparing a little leaguer to Roger Clemens.

O'Neill good. Miller .......bad.

Seidel's book is very good, and is a great guide on how to be organized and really break down a team and the line.

Where can I get this Oliver book?

I'm also interested in this O'Neil author? I have both Trace Fields' works on college football and basketball. An updated college football manual would be a good idea.

GBC is often the only source. They are the publishers or tight with some small Vegas publishers that often are the source of these books. Few of them can be found anywhere else. Just buy them online or give them a call to order them.

yes they take online orders too!

I've used them for years. I think i'm going to check out the newer O'Neil manual.

I didn't see the Oliver once mentioned before on there.

Good thread
