There is no doubt who the best pitcher in the Nl is right now and that is Cardinal pitcher Chris Carpenter. He went out again against best in Roger Clemens and once again outpitches another team's ace. Last 8 outings including today he has given up 0,3,0,0,1,0,1, and 0 runs. That is 5 runs in 8 outings. Simply put, this may be the best pitching since Orel Hershiser in 88 and his scoreless inning streak. Willis is once again doing his 2nd half fade. Clemens is still solid but in his twilight. Wood,Prior, Zambrano, nope. Carpenter will give Cards ace they didn't have in playoffs ly along with Mulder who is pitching well to be the difference!

If he pitches I wager on him without any delay. I usually take cards -1 when he pitches and I love the results

This guy is on a serious roll! If he didn't get hurt before playoffs ly, I don't know if he would have made any difference in result of WS but I hope they both make it back so we can find out!

choptalk,

I expect to see your Braves in the NL Championship! I wonder if but don't expect Braves to open up wallets to bring in ingredients to make run to WS this year but it would make it interesting. I do know Cards are on pace to break projected attendance as budget was built on 3.1 mill and on pace for 3.4 mill so Cards have 8-10 million to spend at trade deadline. It wouldn't surprise me if they get another younger corner outfielder, backup catcher, and maybe even top lh reliever (Wagner (wants to play for Cards) or Guardado) at the deadline. They need to go for it now as they are not getting any younger with their stars Edmonds,Walker,Rolen,Sanders, etc.

General manager John Mozeliak said Tuesday that Carpenter has renewed numbness and some bruising in his right shoulder and hand. He will get an additional medical evaluation, but Mozeliak says Carpenter is unlikely to pitch again.
Carpenter had surgery in July for the nerve injury and returned to pitch three games down the stretch and three in the postseason.
Carpenter is 37 and is considered one of the best clutch pitchers in Cardinals history. He is 144-94 for his career and 10-4 with a 3.00 ERA in 18 postseason starts.
