Cards once again go out and prove naysayers wrong again by beating Astros 3 in a row with Pettite,Oswalt, and Clemens all pitching! They have the best pitcher in baseball right now in Chris Carpenter and from 1-5 best starting staff and overall best pitching and defense in baseball. Regardless if they start hitting up to their potential, this is the team to beat and will prove it in October. They will get downright scary if Rolen,Walker, and Edmonds start hitting.

I was at the game when Pujols knocked the walk off homer, it was one of the best sports moments in my lifetime.

I had tickets for today but sold them as I had only a pair but 2 kids and they would have been fighting over who was going . Anyway, Pujols and Cards may not be hitting as consistent this year as last, they keep stepping up when they have to as witnessed by Pujols going 0-4 and then hitting walk off.

Not from that part of the country, but for some reason Cards have always been my fav. NL team. Twins, BoSox in AL. I agree I think they are by far the most well rounded team in MLB this yr. As long as it`s not my Twinkies (it won`t) I`d love to see them win it all. My fav. vision 4 zip SL vs NYY.

I would actually like to see Cards/Red Sox rematch (for obvious reasons) or Cards/White Sox (so I can go to games in both cities being from StL but living in Chicago). I like Twins and wouldn't mind matchup since Cards need some revenge from 87. Santana and Radke need to get back to their A games if that is going to happen.

fishhead,

Couple major differences this year. Red Sox have no Lowe or Pedro, no closer as Foulke has been horrible while Cards have Mulder and Carpenter. I welcome the rematch as I saw a couple Cards/Sox in Stl about a month ago, and rest assured it won't be a sweep. All motivation is on Cards side regardless who is there as they want to prove everyone WS sweep was a fluke. Watch! Cards will take it to an even higher level. Don't be surprised if Wagner doesn't go to Boston but to St. Louis!

Beating up on a weak division; things will be different in the playoffs. Angels look like they're taking it.

Angels are playing well but don't discount what Cards have done.

vs Nationals 2 of 3
vs Cubs 1 of 2
vs Astros 9 of 11
vs Padres 1 of 4
vs Braves 1 of 3
vs Mets 2 of 3
vs Red Sox 2 of 3
vs Yankees 2 of 3
vs Arizona (over .500 when they met) 3 of 4
vs Blue Jays 1 of 3

in my book that is 24 out of 39 vs teams over .500

Not too bad in my book!

God help you in the playoffs when facing the Cardinals. Carpenter is just unhittable, and Morris is an Ace quality pitcher as well. Mulder and Suppan are also very solid. Bullpen has been excellent, despite all the haters talking trash about it. Pujols will go 1 for 3 until he retires.....the guy is just immune to slumps. Injuries are the only thing that will keep them out of the WS. It will be a great way to end the run at this Busch Stadium. Win the WS and then tear it down, baby!

I'll take even odds right now that they don't even make the world series, let alone win it.

Kojak, you want some of that action? Name the amount.

d2,

Considering I am a moderator it is not appropriate to make wagers with posters but considering our friendly wagers ly have yet to be paid I doubt that you would pay anyway. But I would take that bet.

We had friendly wagers last year? :icon_conf What were they? I always pay my debts. Let me know and I'll make it right.

According to your post Kojak the Cards are 4-6 against SD, Atl and Was. Those are the other three playoff teams as of right now; don't bet the house.

d2,

We had bet tickets to the Cards/Cubs tix for this year and the second bet was buying a night of drinking. It is no big deal. But I can't bet with you on this but would take the bet if I could. Best of luck to your Cubs and since now that you at least offered to bet , I now know I can take it to the house as it will happen like every other disagreement or bet we have made. If you need me to pull up the posts I will see how far back I can go to pull it up but it is no big deal to me. I respect your Cub loyalty but need a big dose of reality that this team needs to make wholesale changes and I could n't even tell you where to begin. I guess it is wait till next year time!

Belch one,

No excuses here as we probably played our worst 3 game stretch of year vs Padres but they were on verge at that time of falling out of race and instead propelled themselves to lead in division. In regards to Braves, Atlanta has been our house of horrors for quite a while. I will say those were very poorly officiated games imo that affected outcome of both losses but a loss is a loss. We play Padres in two weeks and Atlanta not too long after that. We will see but I am not worried even if both win again as they have more to lose at this point. Best of luck.

I know the White Sox can beat St. Louis. Anaheim needs another piece. Boston needs a stud pitcher, and Yankees + Twins have too many holes.

LaRussa has gagged in the playoffs with equal or better teams than this one (last year not being one of them).

Fuggettabottit!

Yankee fans a little puffy-chested tonight as their savior came home - Al Leiter. Red Sox should be embarrassed losing to him. Somehow the next team will beat him like a drum.
