Looks like both Flip Saunders and the Knicks are gonna luck out here....Saunders especially. What coach wouldn't want to inherit a championship-calibur team? And don't gimme that burden of expectations crap. No coach wants to inherit a rebuilding project. Saunders should be a good fit...which is unfortunate, considering that I hate the Pistons. But oh well.

Huh?

Have you ever been to Detroit? What a shithole!

So you get a job in a crappy place to live following a coach that took his team to the Finals repeatedly in an Eastern Conference that now has to deal with Shaq and Miami.

Why would anyone want that job?

Saunders is likely the next head coach...but to say that position is desirable is a huge stretch.

How about The Fabulous Forum? Another great neighborhood! I'll take Detroit anyday! You obviously haven't been to Detroit :103631605 in a LONG time!

Flips' Twolves teams underachieved the past few years, but I would like to see him get another team to coach.

Any team with Sprewell was destined to underachieve.

Is that supposed to be a joke? 1)It's not like the rich people in Detroit live in the fuckin slums...they all probably live out in some nice suburbs area with their fellow rich people.

And you think this job is less desirable than the Clippers job? The Atlanta job? Coaches and players want to WIN. For most all of them(I say most because some, like Larry Brown, want money and other things), their #1 priority and focus is championships. The Pistons are a team ready to compete for championships. You think Flip Saunders would rather coach somewhere else? Fuck no. There's a reason he didn't want to turn down the Bucks.

And I'd much rather deal with one, maybe two threats(Indiana) than the Spurs, Suns, Mavs, Nuggets(Karl factor), etc.

Coaches want to win. Flip Saunders wants to win. For a coach who was fired and looking for employment, this is a DREAM job. Hell, this is a dream job for any coach, getting players who want to win desperately and are as hungry as ever.

Pretty common knowledge that Detroit is not an upper level city to live in.

How many stadiums are in good parts of town. Pretty much every one I've ever been to is in a shity part of town. With the exception of the Miami Dolphins. There are some very nice areas of detroit and some of them are fairly close to the palace.

Most major cities have more nice areas than ghetto...Detroit is ghetto. I'd rank it in the Top 5 crappiest cities in America. That place is a disaster area.

I wouldn't exactly call Omaha a city, at least for purposes of this thread. And I can guarantee you, you must not have been here. It is a clean place, low crime rate, friendly state, etc etc. Nothing wrong with Omaha, but again it isn't a city in the true sense of the word, lots of stuff you cannot do here that you can in major cities, starting with major league sports. Many places that would be nicer to live no doubt, but family is important to me and Omaha is a very nice place to live. Detroit is a shithole, Omaha is not. Your statement is clearly once of ignorance.

Omaha or Detroit would be a very easy choice for most...have you guys ever been to Detroit?

I never understood just how bad it was until I was there last year. Unbelievable.

You say that I am a moron, but you even say that Omaha has its nice points, and agreeing with my post that it is common knowledge that Detroit isn't one of the nicer cities to live in. Makes sense to me. Maybe those that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

I really dont care one way or another. And yes detroit isnt a great city, but then again the pistons dont play in detroit. There stadium is 33 miles outside of detroit. Much like the miami dolphins aren't really in Miami. Most big citys are shitholes. With the exception of 1 day a few years ago Chicago has had at least 1 murder every single day for something like 15 years. And yes I've been there I used to live in Michigan. And will agree if you get in the wrong parts of detroit you fear for your life, but the palace isnt in those places. Now if you go down to the end of 8 mile by the MGM casino, the old tiger stadium, or Joe Louis Arena. those are bad areas. but again the palace is 35 miles from the old tiger stadium and joe louis arena. Thats quite a ways. And the farther north you go the better it is. There is actually some very, very rich neighborhoods around auburn hills.

Easy Money is right on with his post. Most of these athletes live around Bloomfield Hills & Orchard Lake anyhow which is one of the richest areas in the country with mostly Auto Execs from around the world. Beautiful huge houses and golf courses that are top tier. Oakland Hills ring a bell.

Clip Joint- What part of Detroit were you in? Sounds like Eminen's neighborhood in the movie 8 mile where only a fool would be. Plenty of shit areas around Detroit but millionaire basketball coaches don't live within 30 miles of it. Lakeside property in Grosse Pointe on the East side also very old money with magnificent homes. If you do want to drive by some shit you can go downtown to 3 casinos that most major cities don't provide either. Plenty of shit surrounding Manhattan as you drive into it as well or Chicago going to Michigan Avenue or Lakefront Drive. Big cities have big slums to go with their big money areas and Detroit looks like Beirut in many city limit areas.
It's like saying Englewood and Compton is the entire Los Angeles area. Staples isn't located in a big income area either but is better than the old Sport Arena or Forum.

I grew up in a city 1 hr north of detroit. Back in the 80's and 90's the cass corridor area and the rest of the inner city was a dump and scary as hell. As year 2000 rolled around the city approved casinos and the major sport owners decided to invest in downtown detroit(except Bill Davidson).
Nowadays there are still a few areas you don't go but overall the city is one of the most improved cities in the US. How many cities can you just walk across a two lane street and go from The football stadium to the baseball diamond, and in 5 years to the Hockey arena, all just that close.
Greektown is also a fabulous for food and entertainment. I'll be goin home in August and now downtown detroit is a destination not the plague.
