How about Curt Gowdy at 85 now with a house on the market for $27 million. They brought this up on PTI tonite.
Bought it for $1.7 and spent money in Palm Beach in 1988. 15 times back for a guy who hasn't worked in 20 years. Good for Curt. Proves once again that Real Estate is the best investment.

[font=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica]Sports announcer Curt Gowdy -- longtime voice of the Boston Red Sox -- has listed his mansion in Palm Beach for $27 million.

That's way up from his purchase price of $1.7 million in 1988, according to local tax records, after which he did major renovations including installing new plumbing and electric, adding a professional-grade kitchen and dock and landscaping the grounds. The 12,600-square-foot Spanish Mediterranean-style lakeside residence was designed by well-known Palm Beach architect John Volk in 1930. It was built for Edward B. Adams, a senior partner with E.F. Hutton & Co., and subsequently owned by the Marquis Jorge de Cuevas, a Chilean ballet impresario, and his wife, a granddaughter of John D. Rockefeller.

Gowdy, 85, was also host of ABC's ``The American Sportsman'' and a play-by-play football announcer.

Now, he and his wife, Jerre, plan to spend more time in Boston with their children and grandchildren.

The six-bedroom, 5-1/2-bath main house has stone, marble and oak floors, 11-foot ceilings and large terraces. There are separate staff quarters in the main house and a 50-foot swimming pool on the grounds. Carol Digges of Brown Harris Stevens has the listing.

Only in America could a guy who couldn't pronounce half the players' names and never seemed to prepare become the #1 sports broadcaster(in terms of events covered and money made at the time) and retire a wealthy man!
