DAVIE, Fla. (AP) - Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams has been cleared by the NFL to report Sunday with the rest of the team for the start of training camp, a year and a day after he abruptly retired.
The league's 2002 rushing champion decided to seek reinstatement after sitting out last season. He still faces a four-game suspension at the start of the season for violating the NFL substance abuse program.
"We've taken the steps necessary to ensure an on-time arrival, and he's excited about rejoining his team," said Williams' agent, Leigh Steinberg.

The NFL cleared Williams to report on the first day of camp without incurring a further violation of the drug program, league spokesman Greg Aiello said Tuesday. Williams acknowledged shortly after retiring that he failed drug tests and faced a suspension for testing positive three times for marijuana.

I am flabergasted that the dolphins even want this pothead back..but seeing how Miami is projected to stink it up this season, this may be there only shot

Does anyone understand how his 1 season suspension turned into 4 games?

Ridiculous...anyone who gets busted for steroids or any other drug should just go take a vacation for a year. The NFL has really set a bad example here.

By the way, how in the hell would any of his teammates take him back even with an apology? He quit on them without even giving them a chance to get a replacement. That was the most bush league move I have ever seen. He was their entire offense.

Being a huge Dolphin fan, it was very bush league, but I would like to think that they can somehow forgive and forget if it helps the team improve. They are very short on talent and can use anything they can get.

Given the way that he screwed the Dolphins over last year, it would be really interesting to know how the players REALLY feel about him coming back.

How could you ever trust a guy like that and count on him? You can forgive almost anything except quitting in sports.

Is he not gonna get the hell knocked out of himself in practice?

On a sidenote: wouldn't you love to hear the comments by the defenses he will face every time he gets tackled. They should offer pay per view and have him miked up!
Someone should start a thread of the comments he will receive throughout the season by opposing defenses.

"smoke this"

defenses could call themselves the "weed control" during Dolphins week or "weedeater" "chronic hitters" "joint jackers" " or they could put tape on their helmuts wit "Ortho" on it or "DEA"

If and when he does play; he's not even going to be the starter.

Mop up change of pace 2nd teamer at best. Maybe they will have him return punts and kicks, that would be fun to watch.

I wonder where his weight is at?

And would love to have seen a picture of him when he dropped all that weight..what was it, 185lbs he was down to, some ridiculous number for him.

Miamis management is terrible. They desperately need someone sharp like Theo Epstein to come in there and take over.

Now, after wasting years with Fiedler, they seem intent to waste 3-4 more with Feely.

They still have not drafted a QB since Marino retired. They could have taken Drew Brees late in the first round a couple years ago but Wannstedt took CB Jmar Fletcher instead. Wannstedt.......:finger:

The difference being that steroids have the effect of improving a player's performance, which amounts to cheating, whereas pot tends to hinder a player's performance. If the NFL drug policy is intended to eliminate opportunities by players to gain an unfair advantage, then it should almost reward those who go out of their way to.... to.... puff...puff. What was I talking about again?

Fuck Ricky, he quit on the team last year and will now be a cancer in the locker room. I don't care how good he was. I wouldn't want him to play on my team. My guess is that Saban plays lip service to welcoming him back and the Dolphins trade him, probably to Oakland.
